  1. Molly Hunt? Haven't heard of any but if there is one happening I'm in ! Cheers, JaSA
  2. Not a fish tank - but for a heat storage tank Water temperature in there can go up to 60C for what I want to use it for, thats why I asked. Cheers for that, JaSa
  3. Excellent job ! Will pop in one day and have a look A little bit offtopic but do you know what the max temp. is for the fiberglass/epoxy you used? And did you put fiberglass on all the inside surface's or just in the corners of the tank? Cheers, JaSa
  4. Great project - can't wait to see it finished :gpo2: Cheers, JaSa
  5. Try to contact user "reef" here on the forum. I got bags from him and I'm very happy with them. Actually I need to buy some more from him I think - better check Cheers, JaSa
  6. Thank you Adrienne & Yellow Something totally new: Hypermelanistic Blond Tiger Endler: Theses fish are base colour Blonde which normally cannot have black markings due to the fact that the black pigmentation in the skin is very, very small and round shaped. But hypermelanism boosts the production of melanin and transforms the pigment shape into a star and suddenly black marking become visible again! Compared to base colour Gold, hypermelanistic fish show black markings in their pectoral fins. So coming from original Tiger Endlers on base colour Grey which are okay but have boring females to the Blonde Tiger Endler lacking the contrast due to the missing black we are improving the fish with the hypermelanism mutation to give us the hypermelanistic Blond Tiger Endler that has a even better contrast than the original Tiger Endler - especially in the females Very happy with the Swallow Tail Guppies: Cheers, JaSa
  7. New mutation - Gull Wing Guppy: Showed up recently in my Full White Plainum which got imported by Hollywood Fish Farm a little while ago. The origin of this mutation is Japan and compared to Big Ear (Thailand) the pectoral fins are extended and not round. I saw and read about Gull Wing Guppies the first time in March on a japaneses blog and now some of the males show the same trait - very exciting The shape looks a bit like the wings of a sea gull so the name suits this new trait quite well. Watching theses two males flaring to the female is very impressive. For more pictures click HERE Update from the Blue Tigers: Black Flame Hybrids: Cheers, JaSa
  8. Multicoloured Tiger Endler : This one is pink at the back - sadly doesn't look that impressive on the pictures: Blonde Tiger with Wagtail: Blonde basecolour isn't supposed to show black colour so I'm a bit confused by this fish to be honest. Never seen anything like this before. Just normal Tiger Endler: Update from the Glass Belly Guppies: As you can see nearly all of the silver skin is gone and also the silver layer on the gills. Not many generations to go now ! Another drop of Swallow Tail Guppies. With 25% the best result I had so far: Cheers, JaSa
  9. Well done ! I wouldn't raise the first lot of fry from the females. Chances are high that your male is not the father. Cheers, JaSa
  10. Good evening. High-Fin: Dominant. Means even heterozygous fish will show the trait. General understanding is that it is not possible to breed a homozygous high-fin platy due to being a lethal factor. Only three people claimed so far to have developed a pure (homozygous) strain - but on the other hand it is no problem at all with swordtails. Since all modern platy strains are hybrids between maculatus, variatus and helleri, the question is, how much helleri blood do you need in a Platy strain to make it work? Wagtail: Dominant. Means even heterozygous fish will show the trait. Best thing would be Marygold High-fin x Coral Red Wagtail with the Coral Platy being heterozygous yellow/red. That way all fish in F1 will all have wagtail, high-fin and 25% of the fish should be very close to your picture. The rest will be just yellow - depending of the genetics of your Marygold fish. Cheers, JaSa
  11. Hi there, anyone seen them in NZ? They are not on "The List" but they might have made it over here a long time ago ?¿? Cheers, JaSa
  12. I'm not into salt water tanks - but your pictures are very cool. Thanks for sharing, JaSa
  13. Yup, still working on them. Surprisingly fertile for the intense inbreeding programm I run so there are good numbers to select from. On the other hand progress is slow with only a tiny bit more missing after every generation. Could be another 12 month - who knows... There is already a related strain of Asia Blau and an Albino-Strain ready to cross with them to get a See-Thru Guppy. So once I get to that point it's all good
  14. Thank you Mission accomplished! Guppies are highly underrated and I try to show people that there is so much more to them than the † quality ones you usually see in the LFS and on TM. Cheers, JaSa
  15. Blond Tiger Endler: Flamenco Dancer: Cheers, JaSa
  16. Classic Japan Blue: Some random Hybrids: Koi Swordtail: Albino Grass & Albino Lace. Tails are horrible but it's only F2. Grass showing top swords: Different Tiger Endler lines - some good, some not so much: Cheers, JaSa

    Guppy fry

Depends on the strain. For example my Swallows, Red Chest and Glass Belly won't touch their fry at all. The adults stand in the middle of a big swarm of and just move around very carefully. The White Platinum will ignor their fry up to a certain population and than start eating them. The Double Swords, Flamenco Dancer and most of the Albino Strains hunt their fry and without big piles of plants no fry will survive. To answer your question: Extra 20ltr tank with heaps of plants for the female to drop and than remove her as soon as she is finished. Cheers, JaSa
  18. Hi, I would cull the female in the first picture - she is very sick. Concentrate on the second female and raise her offspring that will pop out in about 25 days. That way you don't have to buy more fish and loose them due to introducing more germs and parasites your current fish are not used to. This is the exact reason why your male died... Good luck, JaSa
  19. Thank you A few went to ExoticAquatics, the rest went to the chickens as high protein food. Only the guy from the last picture is still around and will be used to breed something very special - but totally different looking 8) Cheers, JaSa
  20. Pingu's: Classic Japan Blue with only partly hidden Tigrinus: Along the way to a full blue guppy: Cheers, JaSa
  21. - Weigh the plant material you remove when trimming. - To make it easier lets go with that the plants contain 80% water or have a dry matter (DM) of 20%. - Typical nitrogen content of plants in their DM is 2% to keep it simple. - How often do you cut your plants? Every four weeks? - How big is your tank? 100ltr? Example: - Weight of the removed plant material = 100g (which is a lot but lets go with it because it's easy to calculate) - Equals 20g DM - Nitrogen is 20g DM / 100 * 2 = 0.4g or 400mg - 0.4g / 28 days = 0.014g or 14mg extraction per day - 14mg / 100ltr = 0.14mg removed per day and ltr (=1.4ppm) So next time you cut your plants back, grab the digital kitchen scales and see how much growth you had = extracted nutrients 8) Why do I love to have lots of duck weed (35% protein = 2.24% nitrogen in DM) in my fishroom? - Removal per week = 600g - DM is only 8% = 48g - 48g DM / 100 * 2.24 = 1.075g or 1075mg nitrogen - 1.075 / 7 days = Extraction of 0.153g or 153mg nitrogen per day - 153mg / 1200 ltr = 0.127mg per day and ltr (equals 1.27ppm) Cheers, JaSa
  22. Yeah, I don't think any fighter could handel 10-20 adult guppies per day ... :ske:
  23. Hybrids: Fish are only 2 month old and lost a fair bit of black in the little glass that I used to take the photos. Imagin them older and fully coloured up with a deep black - stunning. Also interesting: All have coloured ventral fins and gonopodiums... Cheers, JaSa
  24. Are all the Mod's on holiday? Please split this thread into two because I honestly would like to know the answer to the initial question without going trough 5 pages of pro & contra about a #$@&%*! american TV Show. Thank you, JaSa
  25. Beerfridge, drill two holes in it. Make a spiral inside the fridge (max surface area) out of hose, add a pump somewhere in the line and suck the water from the tank through the spiral in the fridge back into the tank. Cheers, JaSa
