  1. I have one lonely male here, not really sure what i should do with him. Anyone got a female that could have decent crack at breeding them??
  2. Ditto? Your not just teasing are you Jack?
  3. You wont see any difference in a JD with only one blue gene, will look normal. You will have to trust the person that says that it has the gene. As above i believe the gene is recessive so you will need two copies for it to be expressed.
  4. Pretty much decided on a 2.4L Euro accord wagon, They have got a decent boot without being a ford/holden with the bigger engines.
  5. Hey man ive got a steel based stand/bench, has adjustable screw feet on the bottom.. Have a look at my link the big stand is 1800 long and ?80 cm wide. the steel frame looks like two of the frames pictured together. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=61330 I can get images (sometime) or your more than welcome to come have a look. Cheers Duncan.
  6. You pretty much have world of water and pure aquatics to go to. Not much else really. Although i cannot remember seeing any apistos in either for a long time (if ever)...
  7. Thanks all for your responses. Going to need more than a day!!!
  8. Yeah it has happened (twice now) when im hosing the bucket out so probable actually sprays sand into the impeller housing and jams it.
  9. Hey all, thought id ask.. Heading up to auckland to look for a new car, likely import, euro accord wagon or atenza or similar. Was heading to botany/pakuranga area and probably the manukau end of great south road... I realise there are dealers all over the place, time is of the essence, so cant be going all over the place, so are there any real good spots where a number of larger dealers have yards with good stock? TIA Duncan.
  10. Mine sometimes gets jammed with sand after i clean and flush out the bucket. i have to remove the impeller unit and clean its housing out also.
  11. Just be wary of the festae, they snap... without warning!
  12. My female festae was the nastiest fish ever, she didnt like someone = :dead%fish Be careful.
  13. Want me to bring it up for you Alan?? Coming up on sunday
  14. Lol yeah thats a poly for sure.. senegal?
  15. I think its a great idea, as you said have them set a couple of degsC above the required temp, so then if your pump fails you wont cook your sump, relying on inbuilt individual heater thermostats to cut out. And having a lower set backup on a separate power supply incase the controller unit itself fails.. Combine with a thermometer that has a hi/low temp alarm and any issues should be obvious reasonably quickly. Sorted.
  16. The bean animal is awesome, on my next tank ill use something very similar, might go without the 3rd emergency drain. i think the version with two pipes is referred to as the "herbie overflow"....? http://www.3reef.com/forums/reef-aquari ... 03844.html Ill be using the full siphon drain and a second dorso to take the rest.. Some sort of hybrid of the two anyway!!!
  17. Yeah thanks, sorry I hoped that hadnt happened, i kinda skimmed the middle bits of the thread. I had the jist of it all but missed that page!
  18. Going back to page 2 or 3 with regard to the SPCA and fish, i have been involved in the SPCA removing large fish from a persons overstocked, under-filtered tank and re-homing some of them with me, so they obviously have some authority when it comes to inadequate enclosures or care with our fishy friends.
  19. Sweet thanks for that, will leave a space at the bottom of the hood for the air to circulate. Just got a huge pail of white ?house undercoat in the shed, ill check its suitable, then whack a few heavy coats on if it is
  20. I just have aquaone units that sit on the top of the tank, wasnt looking at mounting in the hood atm. More worried about whether the back of the hood should be open and ?the need for ventilation vs heat retention vs life of the hood!
  21. Hi all, thinking of building a hood for my 6' tank... Now the tank is located in my very uninsulated garage so thinking ill line the top inside of the hood with poly to save heat? Will this even work? Should i have the hood open at the back? I was going to board/seal off the back and just holesaw a few holes to get the light plugs in so that heat is retained. So that leads me to the next thing, if it is relatively closed in, with only a few small holes for plugs, will there be condensation forming on the roof of the hood... im guessing yes. Assuming i use dressed untreated pine that will be painted will this resist the moisture and last a good number of years? Previous hood i had was pretty open at the back.... opinions please
  22. Cant see how removing the female would help, but i have been wrong before. Could be a space issue, as David asked, tank size?
