  1. Could be, although id assume they would probably be of the same lot or shipment?? Guess there is colour variation in all fish, then add in diet and tank conditions etc, it all adds up.
  2. Frasers one had the mad colour.
  3. i keep looking at the the one at the fish shop, but there is next to no colour in its tail :-?
  4. I was more questioning the motive and getting at the fact that they hadnt probably quite considered the maintainence of the fish that will grow that large (obviously there was some realisation hence this thread) and how she would feel when the whole 'lovely fishy' had worn off and she had to forgo other things to get a big tank instead. But I never said it was a bad thing, Your right actually quite genius if indeed he wanted a monster tank and a big awesome aro, blame the girlfriend
  5. Thats pretty much what we are all thinking yeah... Great reason for buying a fish, they all love the black arowana. Tell her she now needs to spend $3,000 to provide it with an adequate home.
  6. Haha ya gotta start somewhere. Seen the old parrot cross red devil around, but thats nothing special. Cross the jag with the festae Jax are all those fish in the same tank? Got pics? May want to start a new thread.
  7. Jeez that hybrid forum on MFK is a whole different world of fish keeping, so many new/different names/hybrids/morphs etc. They seem pretty ruthless with what they breed together and keep going for generations with the crosses/line breeding/selective breeding/inbreeding etc etc The end product must be such a mixture of alot of things that many crosses/generations on. Some nice fish there, some not so. Liking the bichir hybrid dave.
  8. I tend to agree, but flip back and forward, im generally fine with the hybrids, im generally not fine with people selling them on. Breed them by all means, but cull the fry that you dont want and keep a cool specimen for yourself and a few responsible individuals. Otherwise you will end up with the hybrids mixing with the 'true' spp and mixing up the gene pool... Well i guess thats what could happen in nature anyway, so is it so wrong?? Oh the debate. Im having a mad internal debate of my own  Flowerhorn anybody? haha Out there now and maintaining themselves as a spp. Few blue/normal dempsey hybrids (and a whole heap of fry) on tm at the moment that i dont think should be let out to the public. Will probably just get sold off as normal morph JD's by the new owner.
  9. Flagtail looks awesome, wish they didnt get so big!
  10. Looking good mate, very healty looking fish! You certainly know how to grow fish!! Nice looking FEMALE jag btw Stirring. Would look good in my tank. Aye Fruju?!
  11. The cichlid gold is great too, i had my three large dats on it. Its all pretty good stuff imo.
  12. Better in the flesh, i saw it yesterday! Congrats dave, a truely fantastic setup.
  13. Few threads on here about it, from memory you need to breed blue and normal (they call them green) to get blue/green offspring with the blue gene, then breed one of the blue/green guys with a full blue dempsey to get a mixture of offspring inc blue dempseys. In theory you could breed two blue/greens together to get blue offspring aswell but with a smaller ratio of blue offspring. Not sure how complex the genetics are and whether its as simple as a 2x2 punnet square, or if there is more genes involved in the blue phenotype, but have seen people calculate the crosses as if there were only two genes involved. Lots of info on the blue dempsey forum http://bluejax.14.forumer.com/index.php ... 0e8f572af3 I have a large blue/green (apparantly) female in my tank that i was going to give it a go with one day, just never had the blue male.
  14. Looking good! You need some more dats Mine maybe haha.
  15. Biggest is about nearly 10cm i guess, i recently just bought a few little ones and they are about 5cm. Had the biggest probably about 4 months, last lot about a week.
  16. Yeah thinking of getting the tank going, thoughts are about all i can find time to have atm... Need to move the dats on to free the 4x2
  17. Um... Currently only 2 salvinis 7 GT's 1 Large female JD Going to thin out the GT's a bit and get a festae, texas, and a jag. Chasing my big cichlid community dream, seeing how it goes, so far so good, thinking the planned additions will affect things more than the current stock.
  18. Ill get around to looking one day... I believe/have heard that they grow slower than say the jags or texas cichlids, however my one that i got a few months back has grown a decent amount at a decent rate for the time ive had him... Thats doesnt really answer the question i know
  19. My big male is from the same shipment as the ones currently at hollywood, (as is my smaller male and the female) he is only about 3.5 inches long. Getting the hump already! My older one which is about the same size as the dominant guy pictured is probably a saum and looks kinda similar to yours, has more blue/green around the gills than the GT pictured.
  20. Still cant get over the colour in the festae, amazing! Cant wait to get one off david! Heres my little nasty, he is the dominant GT in the tank (3m and 1f), quickly took dominance off my older male that i have had a while but he has never fed well. This guy is just a pig tho. Also threw a pic of my female salvini Excuse the ditrty glass!
  21. Sweet man, festae looks awesome!!
  22. 30 mins to go, still $101. Definately cheap if a jardini is what you want, oh yeah and if you have a spare 6-8 footer for him lying around Wonder how much more the price will move?
  23. could try feeding raw frozen prawn, my fire eel loved that.
  24. watchlist Hope that guy with the red doesnt try and mix them should he eventually win.
