  1. Thankyou for that. Update 6/11/11 (21 days from spawn): today there are free swimming fry :happy2: , well there are fry that bounce off the bottom a few mm then sit there for a while It is quite interesting that some of the fry are now free swimming while others of the same spawn are still in the egg shell. Do they need the help of dad to free them?
  2. People often panic when they see a lot of live bees, and run around :nilly:
  3. Another update 5/11/11: The first of the fry have hatched in the small tank, still attached to where the egg was but their tails, eyes etc are visible along with the yolk-sac Will try and get some better pics... [Edit 01] Macro: [Edit 02] Some more macro shots:
  4. I fell your loss. I did that this year, although I never use de-chlorineaters, I did a near 90% water change while aiming for about 70 and lost 18 fish in the end. I latter found out that that weekend the DC had 4x the normal chlorine in the town supply.
  5. If you want to learn to say no spend a week in Marrakech or the like
  6. Did a good survey of this little creek during the week by spotlight. In 200m I saw at least 9 kokopu, most were giants by the look. All were about the 80-100mm mark (so 1 yr old? stella?) I didn't see the large one I saw the other week, but I did also see 3 large eels (longfin?) and a smaller less heavyset one (shortfin?), 3 brown trout fry at about 40-50mm and a few koura.
  7. Another update 4/11/11: Removed his rock to a 2ft tank, looks like maybe 15-20% of the first spawn has hatched (or been eaten) already in the main tank. The rest all have eyes and are turning in their egg-sack. Mr bully now looks very forlorn with a new rock over his cave and he is chasing and flaring at everything, poor boy.
  8. duh, I should have read your post better... in FF all you would have had to do was delete the stuff after http://192.168.2.1/
  9. Make sure that windows has forgotten it's o;ld address and isnot on a static IP. That is the interface will need restarting the easist way is to reboot windows with the new modem connected ipconfig /allshould show an ethXX address of something like 192.168.2.xx with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 (/24) if the modem address is 192.168.2.1
  10. I think I will write client server software to do that on commodity hardware, I bet it could do much more besides, I think I will call it telnet :sage:
  11. Ok, just feed about 6 drone pupae and 4 larvae to the inanga and kokopu in the 400 lt tank. They were loved. The large size and soft body of the drone pupae made for very messy eating for the inanga and has clouded the tank a little. The larvae went down better as they broke apart less easily and were a better fit for the mouth size of the inanga. the kokpu just ate them whole
  12. That is: if you acquire them they are stolen.
  13. I think you have P and B mixed up
  14. I am working back as a beekeeper after about 2 years of no bees (mine or someone elses), before then I had kept my own or worked for beekeepers for over 15 years. It has been good to get back into hives. This means I have a easy supply of drone larvae/pupae/hatched
  15. Anyone used bee (or wasp larvae) to feed fish, I know drone bee larvae are high in protein and lipids. That brings up another question are lipids (fat) good or bad for fish?
  16. be prepared to not see the cray for days or weeks at a time. In my 400l tank I see the large koura about twice or maybe three times a week, and I almost never see the smaller one. I think nativelover's comment about a few bullies is a good one.
  17. goatee or full, clean shaved looks older on him
  18. Well had a look under his rock today and there is definitely two spawns there and most of them look fertilised. The first spawn are starting to show eyes. 13 days @ ~16 deg :bounce: He has gone mostly back to his normal colouring, as in my profile pic, so I guess there are no more Cran's females ready.
  19. The poor thing is down at the SPCA now but wont get to see a vet till monday. Is quite deaf, almost completely blind, has 'the sniffles' and weighs next to nothing. :tears:
  20. No sings of cat flu (eyes are clear/no discharge), although the breathing looks slightly laboured. I dont think it hearing is that good either.[Edit] the mrs thinks it is deaf I really think it was on it's last legs, time will tell I guess. It's had 1/2 a pouch of food and some milk but I dont want to give it too much. Thought it did
  21. because there are no woman worth the effort :digH: /me checks to make sure SWMBO isn't reading over shoulder
  22. Well, just went down to the shops to get food etc and when I get home SWMBO has found a kitten. so so skinny :tears: I hope it will be OK, looks like it's eyesight is poor or gone. Does anyone know if this could be form malnourishment? We cant keep it if blind as we are on a main road. I think it will have to go the the spca/vets to be put down. &c:ry [Edit] Pupils are fixed and fully dilated, but it looks to be be able to see some contrast, if that helps
  23. keep us updated They can grow quite fast, one in my big tank is now over 10cm, was about 5 or 6 last year, and I'm thinking I'm going to have to remove it - keep getting fish with nipped fins
  24. Thanks for that, I was more and more leaning that way. The 'spots' dont really show up under my dim lights but do show under flash, so much so that I hadn't noticed them until photographed then looked for them. I'm surprised, and glad, that there is a population of giants there, the spring fed creek is less than 300m long, has had cattle in it (only fenced on one side), has silt runoff in it from the two adjacent maze fields and last year suffered from over-spray killing all the cress and weeds in it. It is growing back well, looks like the bite removed the tail almost all the way to the end of the rays. He (most of my fish get called 'he' if the sex is undetermined) has already chased a few of the small 1yr old Cran's bullies. How big do you thing is too big for a 4x2x4 ft tank? I was thinking that the tank would be ok for two banded and 1/2 a dozen or so inanga.
