  1. It is already "doubled up": So more or less 2 bits of 8mm glass with glue between. The problem with laminated glass is that is not much stronger (if any?) than the glass it started out as.
  2. Have a read of for some ideas http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=52072 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=56075 Thay have the system I was using for a few months, would need to be bigger to run a sump, I tested that ~20mm hose and it could do at least 600 l/h
  3. Safty factor of only 1.219 at 1080 high, might be a bit touch and go with water at full height
  4. No he is just a guts, could well be gravid (and a she?). <*)O>>< There is two 5000 l/h wavemakers and I'm pushing water through the filter/chiller with a 3200 l/h powerhead, so I would say that there is 12000 l/h of water movement in about 350 - 400 l of water just about enough to keep the torrents fit
  5. Easy, just place net beside* and slightly down stream and watch as fishie swims in :sage: *That was easer said than done, I have an extending pole (tent pole) with net attached, this was fully extended (about 2.5m?) and I was at full strech just to get close...
  6. I guess the chiller is doing its job then :happy1: IMG_20120131_164823 by nzbeeman, on Flickr
  7. I too am havibg issues with cynobacteria in my tank, on the driftwood mostly. Is there another way to help solve it, I don't want to dose the tank. ie what are the underlying causes? I have read that a too low NO3 will help it grow?
  8. Sorry for asking the question in the first place
  9. It was a very nice sized giant kokopu. It's very hard to take good pics with one hand on a camera-phone, just about took the SLR out but didn't think I'd find anything that nice to photograph. When I first saw it I thought it might have been a trout as I had just seen a ~4-5lb one just 15m along the creek. Within 3 or 4 min of his (her) release he was feeding again. Saw about 7 giant kokopu ranging from ~120mm to this bigie. Still not seen any bandeds in localish streams yet.
  10. undrground pipe and drum... sounds like the next big thing in music
  11. Sorry about the first pic, my phone was in a plastic bag. The container is about 250mm across at the top, so he is getting close to 300mm in length and ~60 across
  12. The only issue I have with VoIP is the slight delay over WiFi when I use my android phone. handy to beable to take your 'landline' out withyou on your cellphone - works a treat over 3G.
  13. "in May 1988 was accompanied by a huge toxic spill of cyanide slurry into the Ohinemuri River" Plauu what ever was left from the last mining
  14. From that river I would suspect arsenic (or another metal or cyanide) as well, there has been alot of it in them in that river over the years
  15. I'm with snap atm but am looking for something else, been looking at worldnet and orcon and maybe xnet or maxnet. I used to be a forum/irc mod for my ISP in the UK* and am finding the lack of choice in ISPs depressing *we had limited DB access but did have direct access to the ISPs admin and network teams so could get issues fixed asap
  16. Who do you use for your broadband and what do you think of them? Also what do they offer: IPv6? Static IP? Naked DSL? Good Forum/IRC support? Hardware?
  17. or just (get a sparkie to) replace the plug end. computers etc all have standard(ish) power in so it is often just as easy to replace the cable.
  18. Thats intresting as my two giants don't seem to mind the flow in my tank when they are out - that is in the evening or if there is food to be had. I should borrow a video camera and film my tank...
  19. http://web.archive.org/web/20110429221221/http://www.plantgeek.net/ Try that untill the site comes back up
  20. Because they are insoluble so your body cant get rid of them?
