  1. You are going to have to learn to do this your self... See the box at the top right, just clock in the IMG one to coy the string then paste here: Starwort? Callitriche sp Ceratophyllum demersum?
  2. That is a possibility, and one I have thought about. I would have tried to raise the ones I had but the redfin bully fry were more important at the time - yes I have 2 that have been raised in freshwater :f77:
  3. I've also caught then at maybe 3 or 4 mm. All the scientific literature says that they have a marine (or brackish) free swimming larval stage. The ones that I've hatched were definitely free swimming.
  4. Could be done, but I doubt that some random guy on trademe could do it. You would need 2 tanks (fresh and salt) and lots of phytoplankton...
  5. Not really, except last autumn when the bigest female sort of played at spawning
  6. 3 months ago he had next to no colour depth
  7. Yes it does, my ~2 year old male is just starting to colour up. This one is bigger, may be the same age but was wild caught at a bigger size. The first ones I caught were only ~15 - 17 mm. Redfin dont do well small in aquarium - the are real movement oriented hunters when small
  8. I would think so. on the bottom there is very little real pressure on a fully supported tank
  9. You know that tank would look awesome with a few giant and a few more banded kokopu and some redfins... But I'll let you get away with tropical with clowns and eartheaters. When I have the space for a large tropical I want a school of Geophagus altifrons/surinamensis
  10. I vote common as well, both look like they are female as well. Yes, bigger fish have a harder time adjusting to life in an aquarium. I've seen some very big giant bullies, at about that size.
  11. cough, cough... um, no. lets just call it fissidens rigidulus. cough, cough...
  12. Yes from last week, most of the long bits are out of shot either to the left or over the lights I don't know if it does any good at removing nitrates
  13. seemed to suck a but of juice today, more testing needed though.
  14. Probably won't have the guts to lift much water. they work best with zero head. what sized pump, tank and canister?
  15. They haven't been caught to weigh/measure in a very long itme. maybe about 25cm for the big one and 22cm for the smaller one? Edit: maybe 23 and 21 - 22 cm?
  16. Glass needs a clean as do the wavemakers again - tank as it is, no preening: Video:
  17. Hives in urban areas often do better than in the country where the farmers are on shorter and shorter rotations and more and more ferts used to force the grass to grow faster and faster
  18. Yeah, even my giant kokopu (the most spectacular of our natives) hide most of the day. Natives are fantastic if you have the time to watch them
  19. No. unless its guppies, then there is a fight on between them and the bigger bullies
  20. Some times the thin stripes on their face are very faint.
  21. fmueller, have a look through the native section 400+ litre would be good (1200 x 600 ) depending what you they wanted and a chiller to keep the temps down below 20 deg C
  22. Yeah, but that is the hobby There are two torrentfish three redfin - two male* countless common and Cran's one shoe string (caught as post elver, just got colour) one giant bully then the two stars the giant kokopu and the goldspot is back in there
