  1. I have just made a short vid of the current riffle tank setup. The pump is a 3200 l/h aquaone tank is a 2x1x1 ft the only filter in here is the 'sock' on the pump intake Sorry about the cloudy water, I just cleaned the 'sock' over the intake so the turnover is much improved and has lifted all the gunk off the bottom. Edit:- updated link:
  2. 78 means nothing to me and I cant be bothered to look it up... But blooms like this normally come from overfeeding I believe, so: cut back on feeding do some water changes, say 15% a day test for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates
  3. I think I know what Barnacle is on about, when I get the 3D background of my 430L made it will have 3 inch pipes to take the water from one end (at the top with a grid and sponge over the end) to the bottom at the other where there will be a variable 15000 l/h and one or two 5000 l/h wavemakers. this will be for my bullies and the 4 adult torrentfish - the kokopu should be ok in the mid to upper water and behind their driftwood. This will be in 1200x600x600. If you have the pumps in the water they will add a lot of heat to the system
  4. I had 5, 2 Gastromyzon scitulus and 3 Beaufortia kweichowensis. I think there is only one of each left.
  5. there fixed that small typo for you
  6. I would say that 3000 l/h is the min for a real good flow across the bottom, and by the time it gets to the end of a 1200 long tank there wont be the same flow across the bottom. I would use a spraybar of some type to spread the flow more evenly across the width of the tank and keep it as close to the bottom as you can. I extended the return pipe on mine so that the spraybar is only about 30-40mm off the bottom of the tank and is sitting on the rocks. Tank mates, well at the moment I have about 1/2 a dozen blond guppies that are growing up and 3 inangia unfortunately the heater in my hill-stream tank got turned off while the tank was out in the shed over winter and I lost at least 3 of the loaches in it &c:ry
  7. Bu if you can have a SIM of a real world place, why not time period?
  8. I got my self a 300 one of them - double powerheads. Not used on a salt tank yet, still need to set up the tank, but looks to run ok when I tested it out
  9. I have a brain ache for you: Will computers get powerful enough to run SIMs that are believable? Will this computing power be within the reach of most people? Will that mean that there will be many of these eventually? If all of the come to pass what are the odds that you are part of someone else's SIM and don't exist in the real world?
  10. It might be a tight fit to get the plants and something for them to grow on in 200mm. I think that some nice LED spotlights could really work well in that kind of setup
  11. I would go with tetra or mosquito rasbora? I want to set up my native tank as a riparium (or get something bigger to do it in say 2m long 750mm wide and 1.2m high at the back with about 600mm of water)
  12. I would be very careful about a 6mm tank that high, even if it was braced more. What I would be tempted to do is to only fill it 1/2-ish and have the top planted, search for riparium Something like: or
  13. Um, you weren't the first sperm... and that reminds me of this:
  14. I know then as gooseneck barnacles

  16. I thought the whole PM thing was debunked. as far as I can remember FB never had a real PM system untill about 4 years ago and every thing was done with wall posts... I use it to keep in contact with a few friends etc but if I really want to 'communicate' with some one I either email or phone
  17. 5 deaths from the three so it could well be that your bath tub is upwards of 15 times more likely to try and kill you
  18. Must say this is a fantastic thread I hold views much like David R I think. Brought up in a christian house these views still play a large part of my world view (my facebook wall can make interesting reading with friends on both sides of say the marriage debate). I have no problems with local evolution, but no-one has yet shown me it working on a much larger scale... I don't want to start that debate though
  19. but who are you disagreeing with, or is it just a general disagreement?
