  1. I'd just throw a shrimp in, or squze the cat;) Do a search on here, I'm sure someone has posted a brand that has no additives

    Limpets

I did have some in with my guppies (nothing that tasty survives in with the natives) for ages then they just vanished with a few shells on the bottom. The native ones excrete glowing slime when disturbed or squashed. If they arn't a native species MPI might be interested...
  3. That thin 'plant' look like a Nitella sp. and is not a plant but an algae.

    Pig heart?

Not as big as Brutus, second biggest of the kokopu:
  5. So lets get this back on topic to help our fellow forum members out. The correct usage would be: "mine looks to have almost died" or "mine looks almost dead"
  6. If you want to work out the size chiller needed then hovmoller has made a heatloss calculator viewtopic.php?f=3&t=48031 that will work just as well cor cooling. Just remember at every light/pump/etc will add more heat to the system that will need to be removed

    Pig heart?

Kids that have been fattened on KFC might be a useful food for large predator fish?
  8. I'd love to do that as well Have a look at twinkles tank: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=58854&start=30
  9. If you dont ( ) care about the species then fish would be fine. If you are talking about species then things change.
  10. " I have many fishes in my fishroom" means "I have many species of fish in my fishroom" Fish as a plural is correct if they are the same species.
  11. You effect change, but are affected by change.
  12. Nothing wrong with fishes. I have many fishes in my fishroom.

    Pig heart?

Cant be too bad for fish as my kokopu have grown well on ox heart (+ mealworms, waxmoth, crickets, etc)
  14. if you see a lot of it around then it is probably not Fissidens berteroi, but F. rigidulus. F. rigidulus is quite common around and in forested rivers/streams and waterfalls. I've seen a wall and bed about 10m long, 2-3m wide and about 1m above the water line as well.
  15. Mine get crushed Nutrafin Max Discus granules. I have to get around to setting up a spawning tank for them again, last time I didn't get any fry
  16. Remember that the fissidens has taken 2 years to cover just over 1/2 that bit of wood and it just about all died off before it started to grow. It is very slow growing and not easy to grow. Also note that apple snails love the stuff
  17. I think I would be tempted to put a very low stand (4x2 length ways and 20mm ply on top) and sit that on top of a sheet of PVC (or anything very thin and waterproof) then run thick beads of no more nails along the undersides of the 4x2 and then sit that on the PVC. Side on: | SUMP | | | |________________________| ######################### <- poly ========================= <-ply +++++++++++++++++++++++++ <- 4x2 stand, only 2 or 4 inchs high ========================= <-no more nails, then pvc underit all End on: | SUMP | | | |____________| ############# <- poly ============= <-ply ++ ++ ++ <- 4x2 stand, only 2 or 4 inchs high == == == <-no more nails, then pvc underit all
  18. Best way to catch bullies is at night with a spotlight and net, shrimp can be caught the same way but an easier way is to drag a net through weeds/plants in the stream side during the day. They would be fine in the wild, but it is illegal to release them back without permits. There would be people around that would be willing to help out if the worst happened.
  19. Just be aware that packing foam/sponge may have toxic plasticizers and or *icides in them, and may not be nicely open-cell like poret
  20. If you want to buy new give hollywoods a ring for their prices. I have DIY'd a chiller before, untill all the magic leaked out There are two main issues with DIY'd ones, heat transfer and/or toxic copper
  21. they are a fridge, with a titanium condenser. I paid 400 for my 1/2 hp one but it was quite old. Cant see the TM listing to comment on it but it does sound pricey. EDIT: found it - turn waikato off  New thay are expensive, second hand they can be had a bit cheaper .
