  3. Giant bullies will eat anything smaller than them (well about 1/3 of their size any way) and can be very shy, the one that I had never came out like the other bullies.

    Green Algae

I wouldn't strip it down just yet. I would increase the w/c to 1/3 a week, or more often, and gravel vac the stones well each time, goldfish can be messy eaters/poop machines.

    Green Algae

It sounds like cyanobacteria aka blue green algae and is not an algae but a bacteria. It tends to do well in high phosphate conditions and often in low flow areas. What food do you feed, and how much? Are you keeping goldfish? How often are you changing water, and how much do you change? Do you clean the filter at the same time and how do you clean it? Do you have many plants? cyano is in nearly all tanks, just some times it will run rampent...
  6. There are a few of us that still post on here, and there is a FB page. The club is looking to be more active on here I think - posting the monthly meetings etc. We normally meet on the first wed of the month at the Waikato Commerce Club. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1107302 ... ion=stream
  7. Just be careful you don't push it too far and raise the pH I have a handful of crushed lime in my filter (in the 430L tank) as my pH was well under 6 at one stage. It now sits about 6.8 - 7 with lots of driftwood.
  8. a different one of me, showing my face this time. Christmas day lunch.:
  9. I feed the tiger worms to my kokopu and bullies, although they seem to like the red worms better
  10. Found the owner via the LPS and it's reunited.
  11. Can't comment on the banded as I only have one hand it's out most of the time, in with WCMM as the two others that I got as post-whitebait got eaten in the big tank One of the giants sleeps all day and only comes out at about 7 or 8, the others normally come out for a look if someone is in the room
  12. I think I can remember reading it, some thing like ~4 to near 8 I think it said... /me goes off to find it
  13. It's out in mum's tank at the moment as mine was too full. while out there it got eaten by an apple snail right back to just about nothing. It is finally coming away again - I'll try and remember to get a photo net time I'm out there.
  14. Looks nice, the only thing that i thing I would change for now is the oxygen weed, swap it for some twisted val?
  15. just remember that you cant collect from within the national park
  16. was/is a pet and now in installed in mums aviary
  17. well the cat bailed it up on the front verandah so I now have 3 bite marks on hands...
  18. as above, one has turned up in the tree out side our bedroom, noisy little bugger.
  19. I used to see lots of these growing up over in Waihi, cant remember seeing one over this direction in a long time - then again I dont spend as much time turning over dead logs as I used to as a kid.
  20. Two of the giant kokopu scrapping, the have done this the last three water changes:
  21. Looks good (photos are working, but I do have a MFK account, but haven't logged in in ages)
  22. I have mostly changed from beef heart to prawn as the kokopu have decided that the don't want to eat beef or pellets after a summer of live food. The bullies, smelt and torrent fish arn't as keen on the prawn as they were on the beef. As for pellets they eat Nutrafin Max Discus and Cichlid, NLS Med sinking pellets and Sera Cichlid Granules.
  23. Just tested the pH and it is between 6.8 and 7 I guess anywhere from 6 - 7 is good, but I guess I'm aiming for high 6's
  24. Not tested it for ages, but when it went below 6 I added a handful of crushed/chip lime to the filter and that brought it up to about 6.8 - 7. Should test it I guess...
