  1. we already have a bunch of coldwater fish imports that would breed sweeet if let into nz waterways, some already have (goldfish, koi, carp etc) and i'm pretty sure convict cichlids would find a way to adapt to our colder waters - i've kept them in unheated tanks over auckalnd winters and they have been sweet and even bred in those cold conditions! silly maf
  2. really, really, reeeeally wish we could have rays. that BD ray looks simply magestic. long shot, pondering, dreaming question... what would it take to change laws and allow fish such as rays to be imported/kept in nz? or would it just never happen?
  3. can i say it..... "stoopid fish!" :sml1: :digH:
  4. lol stella i thought i was the only one to do this! i do it with my oscars, keeps them very busy trying to attack themselves instead of each other!

  6. can someone please PM me gregs contact number? wanting to talk to him about a repair...
  7. thanks mate. as you know, when tanks crack i usually just give them away lol i have also been advised that i could order a piece of glass the same size and silicone it on to the bottom under the cracked piece, creating a double layer, also silicone along the crack in original piece. are there any disadvantages or risks doing it this way?
  8. i woke up this morning to my 6x2x2 foot tank spewing water out of a crack which spanned the entire length of the tank. i have my suspicions as to what caused it, but that's another story. i would like to repair it, or pay someone to repair it. what would be the easiest/cheapest/best way? appreciate any advice. mahn 8)
  9. hey mate. all above suggestions are good. if u want little fish to have a chance, try feeding them at night when the big fish are sleeping. also maybe try giving big fish a big piece of shrimp so they stuff their mouth and go off and chew it in a corner so the little fish can have a turn lol. also, I have a small gt in with mybig fish, and have recently started feeding it hikari discus bio gold, the gt loves it, and the granules seem to be too small for my big fish to even notice its there. its also 53percent protein so will help ur gt grow faster. good luck! 8)

  16. i find turning down the temperature reduces aggression in my american cichlid community tank. i gradually reduced the temp from 28, and i now keep the temp around 21-23 celcius.
  17. i have a 600 litre tank with a jewel, dempseys, severum, convicts, oscars, green terrors.. and the jewel is sweet as. in fact he's the most staunch of all my other fish.
  18. hi guys. i have been keeping guppies for almost a year without any deaths. about a week ago, one of my oldest and largest females started acting strange. almost lazy like.. stays sunk on the bottom, swims clumsily, doesn't seem interested in food or males. she's huge, one of the original ones i got from josh about 8-10 months ago. is this guppy dying? she's definitely not pregnant. i notice it's scales are also getting a little rough, maybe she is being bitten by other fish? she doesn't look comfortable at all! what should i do with her?
  19. orinoco oscars! i NEED them! :nfs:
  20. just turned 29 and bought myself a fire eel for my birthday! sweet!

  22. my tank is in my room, right next to a window, which is right above a tap and a drain. my vacuum/siphon hose goes directly down the drain, and to refill it i just put the hose through the window and into the tank, and fill it slowly over 2-3 hours. during refill i add another 300w heater to the tank as i usually only have one 300w. my tanks usual temperature is around 21-22 degrees C, i keep it low as i find it reduces aggression. during water changes it drops to around 18 but i have never had a problem in fact my fish like playing in the current from the hose and become a lot more active during and after the water change. i make the hose squirt in fast so it makes lots of bubbles to help dissipate any chlorine but i don't use any chemicals or water conditioner. and my fish have never been happier!
  23. i have a fluval 204 at each end and a large fluval internal filter as well. not as much filtration as i'd like to have, but tank is not heavily stocked and i do 50% water change twice a week, which my fishies love, and i have not had any problems with the water quality so far. my oscar has coloured up heaps since i moved him to this tank!
