  1. i didn't read most of this thread. but i hope people are giving you the obvious answer. you sir (master fish keeper who holds prized stock which is highly valuable not only monitarily but emotionally), should spare no expense in the containment of such stock, nor should you come across any logical reason not to. number one rule of business: protect your assets. a superb collection of high class fish are worth nothing amongst shagpile and broken glass. do it once. do it properly. your fish are worth more than your tank. no exceptions.
  2. dude that's buzzy, i have been thinking about lake victoria recently. it started when i was on google earth looking at lake tanganyika and lake malawi. two lakes that are household names, because most african cichlids on the market in nz are classified as either tanganyikan or malawi. but lake victoria is just as epic a lake as those other two. do they share species? i'm more of a south american guy so i don't know a whole lot about this subject. actually i don't really know much about anything.
  3. good question... i think jack just wants a piece of every hybrid for himself
  4. yeah i suspected change of conditions and stuff would have had her primed.. then the moment i dropped that texas stud in there she let loose like a shore girl. has she laid eggs in your tank before?
  5. also i think i will leave the eggs in there with their mum instead of removing them. jag is free to eat them if she decides to. and the pleco is the only fish she can't fight off so i will also remove my janitor from the tank for a few days to give jag a decent shot at hatching some fry. green texas x jag sounds interesting but my real interest lies in jag x ebjd
  6. last week i added a 6-7cm male "green texas" (Herichthys carpintis) who has already fathered two batches with his ex wife, another carpintis, but recently he killed her and that's when i added him to my jag tank. just cleaning my tank today and i notice my female jag has eggs all up inside her cave. most of them are dull yellow in colour, 5% or so are white. what do they look like when fertilised?
  7. they should be opaque bro i managed to get mine to spawn real easy but the eggs would always go white. had 5 females 2 males. used to put them in a place were the tank will get direct morning sun and id turn the heater off at night and tey would spawn the next morning
  8. i like the way you think. i've actually got it down to one tank now.. (intentionally, flatmates whinge about power consumption etc) i'll put money on it that it's not gonna last a month before i set up another one... fiiiisshhhhhiiieeeesssssss !drool:
  9. aros and catfish? i thought you wanted puffers.... hey im pretty sure some of those larger size freshwater puffers are on "the list"... i know i'd be keen for one...
  10. +1 million. let me know how it goes bro
  11. that's cool. turns out it's totally acceptable to believe in something that is nothing more than a fairy tale....
  12. nah dude i'm pretty sure it's proven at least beyond reasonable doubt...
  13. the vast majority of religious people in new zealand follow a religion that says this: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent"
  14. here's the thing about creation vs evolution. both of them can be accepted as fact (if you wish) evolution being merely the process of creation. unless you believe in a literal translation, that it took seven days to create everything. days, as in 24 hours, which hadn't even been invented yet.
  15. oh no don't let this thread die! religious debate? i believe that if there is a god, then it is a god for all of us, not just some of us. discuss...
  16. done. ima waive the delivery fee since it's your first time. first time is always free....
