  1. ahh, it's not you then. I don't know why but i put the first bid in just in case nobody saw the auction and I ended up with a breeding setup for $50. I so don't need it.
  2. yeah, soak with bleach for a couple of days then boil like crazy for 20 minutes. anything that doesn't come off after that with a bit of a scrub isn't coming off ever.
  3. Ask someone like Real Groovy to import it for you? They do order on demand sometimes. Flick them an email and see what they'll do.
  4. Like black mould or the black bamboo moss/prickly stuff? I would have thought a bit of bleach in the soak water and boiling for 20 minutes or so should do the trick.
  5. I wonder if could sell my wife on that. "It's only a 3 foot tank"
  6. I was wondering the exact same thing. I was also dreaming of a tank big enough to have turtles and large tropical fish sharing the same space. But maybe I'm dreaming there.
  7. What would be the minimum tank size for a breeding setup with a pair? They're bloody big fish fully grown by the looks of things but would 2 in a 3 foot tank be too small? (I'd imagine it would for a display tank but breeders seem to use smaller tanks in general)
  8. the blackest i've found is the grit from HFF. it's pretty damn black.
  9. So if we buy your riccia it comes with fry?
  10. that's pretty weird. Did you throw him back?
  11. +1. Our friends have a cockatiel that's 22 years old and spends 1 hour int he morning and 2 hours in the evening out of the cage and he's still going strong. I was amazed when i realised he'd been around as long as I can remember.
  12. Awesome! I think some twisted val and some extra light would definitely add to the experience. Before anybody else asks - what sand is that?
  13. my plants were ok with just light but really didn't grow until I added fertilisers. This was ok for the hardy plants like the ambulia but nothing else was really growing steadily until I added co2. Now the plants are growing like crazy and they're all 'pearling'? at least half the day. I'd imagine it's better with a pure co2 input as well but the days I've lowered the ferts I've noticed there is less growth (yeah, i can see the difference in a day with co2 + ferts + light).
  14. Puriri moths are awesome. I assume we're about to get our share back again for the summer. A previous owner of our place thought puriri would be an awesome plant to put down the back or the back yard. We now have 5 trees at 4-5 metres high each and not allowed to cut them down. Damn it!
  15. I got my cockatiel about 4 months ago. he came from an aviary not hand reared and following the www.birdtricks.com training guide had him hopping on my hand within 2 weeks. he would just cower in his cage and hiss/bite if I tried to go near him when I first got him. Now he spends most of his time walking around the house on my shoulder all day. Birds have a lot of love in them. The only thing I would say is watch the dogs. My cocky has lost his tail feathers twice to one of our dogs pinning him down when we weren't paying attention.
  16. Cool, that makes a lot of sense. thanks
  17. How do you measure the co2 levels? With a drop checker?
  18. so that's the trick! I wonder if I can convince my wife to let me have the same size tank as yours
  19. Nothing next. Maybe sell / give away half your fish.
