  1. So that's the solution! Right, once this batch grows out they're all going in the community tank with the cardinals. The panda's can then have the little tank for getting their sex on.
  2. Yep, I use it with a ladder. Having not used any co2 before this I can say it's 100 times better than no co2 but I'm sure it's nothing compared to presurised.
  3. I was thinking the same thing. On another note - David, you are an inspiration and an assett to the NZ fishkeeping world and I appreciate that you take the time to share your knowledge here. If you do decide to take action either with or without the FNZAS I am more than keen to help out in any way I can. I truely believe your heart is in the right place and you are one of the few with not only the knowledge but also the passion to achieve the types of ideas that have been raised in this thread.
  4. Replace the tank with an LCD screen and take the tank home.
  5. I'm not joining the argument but for clarity I didn't read LA's post as him telling me (a newbie) that it's gobbledegook. I thought he was quoting joe average.
  6. hahaha, there's no way in hell I could have found enough daphnia to make my lot sick of it for long enough to kill the white spot off. would be interesting to see if it works though.
  7. There is already a list of breeders on this very website - if they choose to register their breeding.
  8. Thanks all. I'll give it a go and worst case they can supplement the sump will be added at a later date. Exactly why I'm wondering I'll grab one this weekend and start it cycling on my 75L so it's ready to go once the stand and tank are sorted.
  9. Hi, This weekend I'm picking up my first big tank and was wondering if 2 CF1200 would filter it sufficiently? It's 1500x750x650ish so fairly deep and tall. I'm happy to use powerheads for circulation and will hopefully add a sump to the mix at a later date. I'm not going to run very high stock levels either as I'm hoping to build up a SA biotope for pandas with some geos or rams and a tetra school of some sort but that's all a long way off. for now I need to build a stand and get the filtration right. Any thoughts? Am I dreaming?
  10. hahaha! if you get only males you'll be sweet. They're the best looking anyway. I had agression issues when I just had males though but one or 2 really good looking ones should be sweet.
  11. Damn, if only I'd seen this yesterday...
  12. Oh yeah - I meant more of an endemic issue, not with the person themself. They probably bought the fish under that name and truely believe that's what they're selling. I'm damned if I know how to change / police / advise on this one though.
  13. Thanks all - I've added wunder white spot treatment and all is well.
  14. There is a serious issue here. The listing mentions - Scientific name: Herichthys cyanoguttatus Common name: Texas cichlid - so if you didn't really know you'd go and buy this thinking you had the real deal as the listing even had the proper latin name (although not for the fish you're buying). Clearly this is what the seller believes they have.
  15. What ever you do don't put guppies in there. My 126 had 4 and now has about 4 million.
  16. So is this NOT a Texas Cichlid? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish/auction-328185463.htm If not what is it?
  17. any headphone set + headphone extension chord I love my extension chord with my sennheisers.
  18. I would have thought the point of such a list shouldn't be limited to the species being bred. I'm likely to have a small number, or even one, of a certain type of fish (pleco for example) as my tanks aren't big enough to house any more at a time but I'd be more than happy being contacted by someone who wanted to try to pair up mine with their same breed fish for the purposes of breeding - almost like stud farming but for fish - I'd expect my fish to be returned after a sucessful breeding group has been established or replaced depending on the deal which could be made between the 2 parties at the time. It would take the pressure off getting involved in a special order if I knew I wouldn't then have the country looking at me directly to breed the fish I wanted. I'd be more than willing to lend them out / chip in for a breeding group to then get my pick of the litter (so to speak) once the group was established. Just an idea but I strongly urge whoever creates the 'new list' (please do so, it would be a great service to offer the community) to not just limit it to people actively breeding the fish they have. I'm happy to help with whatever I can on this front.
  19. Yeah, that's the conclusion I've come to. Thanks to you and Jennifer for the responses - I'll be plagiarising your stand design and going DIY wood build I think! Probably not as flash as the recycled Rimu that Jennifer suggested but perhaps a solid build with a black stain / matt black enamel panel surround to fit into the decor of the house (can't go upsetting the wife). Thanks again!
  20. Hi, I'm looking at a fairly big tank (700L+) and figuring a steel frame is probably the way to go. For those of you that have had them made can you either post here an approximate or PM me with some more specific price details for what they cost to get them made? The tank I'm looking at is a tall 6 footer if that helps. edit: appologies if this is in the wrong forum.
  21. I seem to remember planting the seed pods while at school. But a cutting or 3 off fairly small size will definitely grow out. Do check the legality of it though. I remember a group of people getting in a lot of trouble for 'thinning out' the mangroves in a coromandel harbour because they were causing boating issues.
  22. You've sold me on a poly background for my next setup. I've been designing fitting a DIY overflow into the background for cost saving purposes.
  23. Chances are it was either propagating sand or something like aquabasis which is a fertiliser enriched soil/clay substance designed for the bottom of tanks. Basically you put a lower layer of this in then cover with sand/gravel substrate and then plant your plants. When the roots set in they use the ferts from the lower layer and it allows the plants to grow better/faster etc. It's fairly common practise in planted tanks these days.
  24. Awesome - I wondered if there was such an item. I'm off to HFF today then.
  25. I'm not at all a fan. The lights are just multi coloured LED strips - look on TM for them.
