  1. Just picked up my first panda cory tonight - I love this little guy! I bet he's much like yours. I spotted him all alone in the pet shop so had to take him home. Now I have to find him some friends...
  2. If anybody's going to catch some fresh water shrimp i'm keen to get hold of a few - happy to pay for your time (and some) if anybody does get hold of some.
  3. it's a good thing this is in Wellington or I would buy it just to give it a better life.
  4. very very very nice! :bounce: :bounce:
  5. I've got Ambulia in there at the moment but I've got 3 swords on the way from alanmin - 1 ozelot, 1 rose and 1 uraguayensis - which will need to go into a tank as soon as they get here.
  6. ok cool, thanks all. Will it be OK to plant new plants in there while it's around?
  7. Hi, My tank has been taken over by a horrible brown algae. This is the second time it's happened to a cycling tank in my house. Is it normal for this to come when the amonia goes up before the nitrites start to be produced? amonia is pretty low still at 0.25ppm but it's a 75L tank with 5 black neons so it'll take a while for it to build up. I've just increased the photo period by 1 hour to 11 hours a day as there are plants in the tank and they looked like they could do with a bit more. I'm also using flourish excell daily and comprehensive weekly (or the other way round). Is there anything I can/should do? Remove the rocks it has taken up residence on? Wait it out? The fish are happy and the plants are growing, it just looks bloody horrible. I've got 3 new plants to put in today - should I put them in a quarantine tank until the brown is gone? Thanks in advance.
  8. If you want me to go and check it out I'm happy to over the weekend - I live in the area.
  9. hahaha :D I've been looking at it hoping somebody buys it soon. It shouldn't be too scratched but even then it's 12mm glass so should be able to be polished a bit I would have thought?
  10. got a tank you should consider http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 562761.htm
  11.     addict!
  12. Ok, fair enough. I'd be taking that water down to your LFS for a test anyway, just to be sure the filtration is all working well. Otherwise, I hope you find out what's causing these deaths, it sucks to lose a fish let alone a bunch.
  13. I wouldn't even dare you to try it.
  14. it's this line that's the telling part Warning: You NEED to add more aquarium filtration capacity!!! Although, now that I click on your link again it doesn't say that any more... It was definitely there the first time.
  15.  nobody likes being told they're wrong. Interestingly I have a 20 gallon tank but because of the shape I can have more than 1" per gallon according to www.howmanyfish.com.
  16. Yeah, but I was trying to be a bit subtle
  17. The old 1" per gallon rule doesn't really work that well. Have you looked at the aquadvisor (spelling?) website to calculate the safety of your stock levels? At the end of the day it could be a number of different things but it certainly sounds like you've got a lot of fish in that tank.
  18. it's a bit more technical than that I believe. Something to do with the inability to do unmetered access to the sites that are supposed to be free so they just don't bill for anything on the line. You're right though, as soon as they figure it out they'll start charging for it again. It's been 10 months since they launched Tivo though...
  19. not sure if anybody knows this but if you're with telecom on their total home package and you have a tivo you get uncapped internet - my usage meter says 0 the whole month. It's awesome.
  20. So co2 introduced to the line before the cannister would still be of benefit once it comes back out? This could be an awesome way to hide the co2 system in a cupboard under the tank as I don't have room for it beside or around the tank but the cannister is a metre below the tank and has room beside it for a bottle or 2.
  21. Yep, sounds like it's been done and done safely that way so go for it. Good luck! Fleas here are a real problem especially if the dog is a digger or spend a lot of time on the grass/dirt.
  22. Unless you can absolutely garantee that none of the spray/residue will get into the tank then don't do it. There's a reason they say for people not to be in the house for the day when it's been set off and if humans can't handle a large dose of the spray imagine what it'll do to the fish in the water who don't get exposed to poisons like we do every day. I guess a sealed plastic wrap with absolutely no holes in it would do the trick though?
  23. I'm interested in this question, can you explain what outlet might be suitable and why?
