  1. A Ph swing of one degree is meant to be alright with most fishes, so it should be fine.
  2. If you are only growing sword plants and no other stems or anything like that then all you need is a JBL ball or three (or five+ if the sword is massive) under each sword and that should last around a year.
  3. You know how ordered chaos is a good thing right? Well I think your tank is either too ordered or too chaotic. As to actual constructive criticism that you can act on; The current set up lacks that 'wild overgrown look' that your previous layout had.. That probably doesn't give you too much to work with either  Do you have a focus point? Currently the Hydrocotyle or whatever it is cuts the tank in half quite neatly I would say. If you remove it the closest thing to a focal point will the the Windelov and ideally you would move that to the right a bit to draw the eye; you know, Greeks, golden rule, established a long time ago, 1:1.6, blah, blah, blah. I'm sure you don't need me lecturing you about it though. Just my 2 cents
  4. If you can separate some bits of filter floss from your filter and put that in the crevices of the sponge filter that should give it a head start. Leave it in your main tank for a few weeks to complete the cycle like David said, then remove the floss and it should be ready.
  5. The Tetra Feeding blocks look quite good but I have not tried it yet. An autofeeder will cost about $30 on TM if you can find one that you cab pick up locally. Id call your LFS and see what autofeeders they have in stock and how much they cost. On the other hand in the wild your fishes wont get food everyday anyway so a fast of a few days should be fine for most fish. If you can input your location in the User Control Panel someone from your area may volunteer to feed your fish while you are away
  6. Exciting! :happy2: Which strain/colour will you breed?
  7. Your angels are very pretty  Try taking photos after dark so you don't get any reflection
  8. Well, I learnt my new thing for the day
  9. 23C is too low for L140  Im not surprised they bred once you put it back up to 27C  Unless you were trying to trigger a spawn by keeping it cooler for a period of time? Regardless, congrats on the breeding! :happy1:
  10. :digH: I randomly walked into a cleaning supplies shop in Petone and they happened to have some. It was $8 for a 250ml bottle. I suggest people in other parts of the country try a cleaning supplies store that mixes their own cleaning products. These guys didn't retail the ammonia, they just used it for other cleaning products. Clorogene - 58 Waione St, Petone
  11. Are you sure its a female?
  12. Don't forget to buy the magnet one.. The suction cup ones will fall off sooner or later.
  13. Read this article You should try putting some mouth-brooding cichlids in with them. I think their breeding habits are fascinating! Good luck with yours
  14. Im 17 and male. I have fish tanks that are older
  15. So this is who bought my Bacopa! Its one of my favorites, people don't give it enough credit IMO
  16. Dont for get Ember Tetras! Emerald Eye Rasbora looks quite nice as well
  17. The driftwood you currently have on the left is slightly off the golden rule, maybe by 3-5cm. Also by having the other piece of driftwood sticking out at close to the golden rule place, it creates a distraction to the eye and makes it harder to focus on one thing. Here is a good article about the golden rule. The idea is that you create a single focus point; either a large plant, a piece of driftwood or stone. Apart from that I think you're doing great! If you're still having trouble with the cloudiness, I find Accu-Clear works well. None of my fish have ever had any side-effects.
  18. One word: Otocinclus 8) Two Words: Get some
  19. Dont worry about the Otos, check out the thread on Fatty Catfish in the Catfish Forum - Sophia and I have posted pics of our fat Otos there. You're not alone Id say the fattest one is probably a female but that is just a guess. What you read is completely true, a fat Oto is a happy Oto
  20. Funny how the angle at which a photo is taken can change the species being photographed :slfg:
  21. Does anyone know the procedures for exporting livestock?
  22. Its a freaking cool variation though! They're three months old now. Thanks! Although I bought them as a breeding group so it wasn't too hard.
