  1. Yes, as long as there are no holes in the breeder box it should be fine. Good luck
  2. Wasn't Chloramine added in some parts of Christchurch water after the quakes?
  3. For a two outlet pump you will always have two airstones in use. For a single outlet pump with a splitter you can split it when needed. If you get a gang valve then you can easily turn off the second airstone while using a single outlet pump.

    external filter?

What would happen if you put live rock into a canister filter? For instance if a tank has a HOB skimmer would it be beneficial to have a couple of cheap (sunsun or other) canisters filled with live rock for that extra filtration?
  5. Ive heard bad things about the one with a heater as well, however I have never tried it myself. You can order an inline heater from the US if you don't want it in the tank.
  6. Thanks kiwiplymouth and Squirt! I'll be on the lookout for a male then, if you guys know anyone who has one in Wellington please give me a shout.
  7. I just got three Bandits and Im having some trouble sexing them: #1 #2 #3 #2 looks like a male and #3 looks like a female but I'm not sure which #1 is.
  8. Regardless of what type of injury I think adding some peat in a filter sock will help  Or Ketapang/Almond/Oak leaves.

    Long Finned Corys.

I like Long finned bristlenoses, I think it may be their more elongated bodies (compared to corys). The corys have quite a stout body for the flowing fins to look nice in my opinion. As Carol said: to each their own.
  10. Did Siak Wee Yeo use any pressurized CO2 in his scape? I noticed the interview only mentioned Flourish Excel which would be rather impressive!

Thanks for that. I've found a suitable heatsink from ullrich alluminium, now I just need to find out cost and minimum purchase
  12. Definitely go with the T5HO ones for a 60cm deep tank. Those LEDs will be useless for something so tall.
  13. If you dont mind spending some extra cash Im doing an LED light for a 70cm deep tank and can give you all the information I know :smln: Cant wait to see the tank up and running

Yep. A 200W LED setup 8) !drool:  Its using 50W LEDs, thus the giant heatsink. Jaycar you say; Would Stewarts be another good one? Ill check them out tomorrow. I can buy one from the states, but with shipping it costs $300 so hopefully I can source something locally
  15. If you want pretty setups and indoors I suggest you look at other fish. Guppies can be rewarding, corys are great fun; and if you have enough patience to wait for them to grow up fancy plecs and discus could be an option. Orrrr you could just focus on display tanks, especially because you live in Whangarei and unless you go to Auckland often you will have to ship all your fry. Thus it will be difficult to flog your wares as it were.

Does anyone know who sells large aluminum heat sinks in NZ? I'm looking for a 25cm by 100cm with 2.5cm fins to give you an idea for size,
  17. Have the high fins ever been bred?
  18. If you are entering the garage via the main door it will help if you put in a smaller door somewhere so you're not letting out so much warm air when entering and leaving.
  19. I've switched to pressurized since then, no more things blowing up! :happy1:
  20. I once decided to be smart and speed up my DIY CO2 by shaking it  The inside of the stand of that tank is still sticky
  21. Are they T8 or T5? I would say if they are T5s you could probably grow almost anything with perhaps the exception of Glossostigma and some other high-light plants. T8s will also grow almost anything but will not be as good as the T5s. What you can grow will also depend on your CO2 and what Ferts you are using/going to use as well.
  22. Just wandering... You're not planning to use these LEDs to grow plants are you?
  23. Java moss wont anchor onto glass. You need to get some plastic mesh or something similar for it to anchor on to. This is a pretty good article about how to do it
  24. Sorry, I must have been misinformed  In that case Ill have to mix something up for my swords
