lol, just coveting, not breeding anything at the moment. Have a lone male cockatoo, and a lone male agassizi. Want to get a group of corys, but am daydreaming about adolfoi I can't afford So may have to wait until someones baby trilineatus grow up

I wish I had the $150+ to get a few adolfoi. Can afford maybe two at the most ATM and that is just a waste as HFF albany only has 5 that I could see, and would split the group for someone else... *sigh* I think you have a lot better luck, I am still sad about losing my cockatoo female (the replacement is a pretender, looks female but has little tail points. And is a bit of a munter, weird dent in its body - last time I buy a fish sight unseen! ). I bought a beautiful pair of agassizi a little while back, and the female went belly up after a week alone with him. &c:ry &c:ry Apistos are lovely but a bit heartbreaking!

Re: earthquake risk - I think it depends on how nervous it makes you personally. If it really makes you horribly nervous just thinking about it then maybe its not a good idea. If you are a "take it as it comes" kind of person and think you will not feel anxious down there then definitely go for it. It sounds like a good opportunity, there will be a lot of work rebuilding chch and you could start off an excellent career doing it. The best thing I ever did at 18 yrs old was to get out of AK. There are some amazing people in the rest of NZ that are waiting to meet you, I promise you Flights home to AK can be pretty cheap, it is not as far to chch as it used to be!

i am also a non-believer. A photo of a gravid shrimp does not make you a breeder :roll: But I think its more about the numbers - at $5 per shrimp he won't sell enough to really worry MAF at all. If people were selling in the thousands and to a large number of people then it might be a different story.

When did you last clean your filter? I had what I thought was algae but was actually just debris being blown back out of the filter and settling everywhere because the filter was overloaded with gunk. It was easy to wipe off and blew away if I fanned my hand near it. It was very much like dust. Cleaned out the filter and now its gone. Just a thought.

Maybe you could pay him $20 petrol money?
