My dog would have killed any ducks he could catch (he only caught two, we ate one ) and there were those two staffies that chased a cat in through the cat door and mauled it to death in its own house. Dogs are well known killers of kiwi....

Jaxx, sheep may look easy but are actually quite high maintenance. As Smidey said they will need checking daily, minimum. In the summer they need checking (in addition to other things) for flystrike as well, and feet checking for footrot. My sister has a few acres and thought she would give a few sheep a go last year. She lost them all to facial eczema. She had no idea about facial eczema or spore counts before then, but won't keep sheep again. I suggest that if you aren't in a position to go out there daily to check animals you either lease it out to someone else to run theirs on (there might be room in the arrangement for the leasee to look after an animal for you?); OR grow some plants or trees of some sort. Christmas tree farm?

I go into the archery range paddock, turn left (away from the targets) and head down to a concrete rectangular tank. Usually heaps there. Have been to several other water troughs and found a couple of dead birds and lots of cow poo - so this is the only one I go to now. Might be the same trough Sophia is referring to.

I had I think 4 in a 75cm tank, which I then moved into a 60/30/30. I made sure that there were several areas in the tank, lots of shells, and lines of sight between territories were broken. There were niggles and shell stealing/swapping etc but no injuries at all or casualties. I would try it, but keep a close eye and have a breeding trap ready for emergencies.

Found one of these a few years ago, up near Dargaville, Glinks gully. Beautiful fat sand coloured skink, tho this one was without its tail. id'ed as Oligosoma smithi same as yours.

Subclinical infection/ carrier state - fish is healthy but carrying the parasite - the healthy immune system keeps the parasite in check so animal doesn't get sick. When stressed (from poor water conditions) the immune system weakens and the parasite is able to multiply and cause visible disease.

Nice environmental enrichment Little bit of training and he will clean your tank for you. Very very cool. Octopussesses are fantastic.

I use masking tape and polythene garden bags and tape over the lids to ensure airtightness. And then a blanket over the top for good measure. I don't turn off filters tho, if the canister filter is in a sealed cupboard with sealed pipes going into the tank ie. a closed system, I don't see the point in risking my filter bacteria by turning it off. But I do very carefully seal the cupboard and around the pipes with masking tape/ polythene. I have done it a few times and it has been a bit random, sometimes all ok, but once 3 tanks out of 4 were fine, so there is still a risk even when you take care. The other option is to set up a tank in the garage and move the most precious/valuable fish out there for a couple of weeks while bombing. (I have done this too). FYI - We have also lived in a rental once with a terrible german cockroach problem. The sticky traps did nothing, and we eventually got in a professional to treat the house. It worked well and they stayed gone.
