I thought being dormant meant the eggs were removed and dried in the peat?
  2. Caryl replied to Pegasus's topic in Killies
It isn't the same question is it? Pegasus had asked how long can eggs remain dormant but I think Marty has a species, like the scheeli for instance, who spawn in the mops and don't need a dormant period.

It is all relative isn't it? I too would say $1000 was expensive but if I was spending thousands on a set-up it would be considered cheap.

Hi Marty. Glad you finally dropped in for a visit. Some of us meet regularly in the chat room around 9pm most nights. Perhaps we might see you there some time.

I was warned to be careful with the trout pellets as they are 'richer' than other fish foods and will pollute the tank more readily if over-used.
  6. May be the weather having an effect too sue.

I would try feeding them less too as it sure sounds like it is associated with feeding but I have not heard of fish having trouble with flake before.

Always exciting though isn't it? Congratulations

Welcome to the forum wobuffet. In case you are interested, a few of us meet most nights in the chatroom around 9pm. Are you bothered with heffalumps up your way?

I had a couple once but, like someone else said, they would only eat snails - and tons of them. I could not keep up with their demands and unfortunately they died after about 6 months but they were cool looking fish! I had them in a tank on their own and tried to get them to eat other foods but no luck.

You have 40 fish in a tank only set up 2 weeks ago?? I hope you used mature filter media from an established tank or you are going to run into trouble. What are your test readings for pH, nitrates and ammonia? Are you doing water changes? Which of the fish do you think spawned?
  15. Depends on how many photos, and what the baby looks like Congratulations!
  16. Caryl replied to markc's topic in Technical
yeah, what Ira said You haven't been turning your UGF on and off have you?
  17. Caryl replied to markc's topic in Technical
It is not a good idea to turn them off. They turn the whole substrate into a large filter and it is necessary to have that flow through it to keep the bacteria alive. Turning the filter off kills the bacteria which then pollutes the tank.
  18. They go to individuals. PM me your full name and address and I will check if one was sent to you. I assume you belong to an FNZAS club?

  22. Here is the reply from Warren Garret, owner of Brooklands who distribute this product for Aquarium Pharmaceuticals... We have had no problems with the catfish or loaches mentioned with Furan 2 in our experience. We have also checked with Aquarium Pharmaceuticals and they also state there should be no adverse reaction to Furan 2 treatment with these species.
  23. Thanks for that Cees, very helpful. Anyone else?
  24. I have emailed Brooklands (the suppliers) to see if they can answer this for you count.
  25. What fun! Corys will breed in temps 20 - 24C. Incubation is 4 days and you feed the young on newly hatched brineshrimp. You could also buy fry food for egglayers. When the fry hatch, lower the water level to about 10cm. The fry will feed at the bottom and surface, where they will swim belly side up. Adding 1tsp salt to every 50 litres of water will help survival rates. Weekly or fortnightly water changes of 2/3 of the water will make the fry grow faster. The fry are sensitive to some kinds of treated tapwater so it might pay to let it stand for 24 hours before adding it to the tank.
