  1. Hi and welcome to the fishroom. I have Malawis myself. Plus a community tropical.
  2. Egeria densa is a noxious weed over here  It reproduces by breakaway branches. It will not kill it if you chop it off, nor will it stop it growing.

    Clown Loach

3 will be fine. Clowns love being in a group with the more the merrier. Bear in mind their adult size though.

    availability

Hi Shane. I'm curious, why do you want to know?

    Hello, im new

Hi Tracey and welcome. Nice pics. I like guinea pigs but hate rats! How did custard get his (her) name? Custard is supposed to be yellow  What sort of fish do you have?
  6. As I have said before, the most interesting tank we ever had was a cold water rockpool marine. Watching the inhabitants was fascinating. Of course, it was nowhere near the size you are contemplating
  7. Hi mollyman and welcome to the fishroom. Good to see you. Any friend of plantgeeks is a friend of ours I think we will make you an honorary kiwi since you have probably seen more of NZ than most who actually live here - particularly the Aucklanders
  8. This is the trouble with pet shops not using the scientific names for fish. It could be a colour morph of the silver tipped tetra or maybe a bloodfin.
  9. You don't need ammo lock, salt (unless it is a marine or you are wanting brackish fish), Stresscoat or Stresszyme. You also shouldn't need pH stabiliser. What is the pH of your tap water? Plant the plants straight away and add 4 small fish. These fish will help cycle the tank. After one month, check readings of pH, ammonia and nitrates. If all levels are acceptable, you can add 4 more fish.

    Hastings Cichlids

Try posting this in the trade and exchange section LoGaN as more may see it there. Welcome to the fishroom too
  11. They might be old school but they work! Mine has been going for years with never any problem. No expensive bits to break and replace, easy to see when it needs cleaning and so easy to actually clean. I have a Fluval 404, Eheim wet/dry 2229 and an AquaClear 500 and the only one that hasn't given any trouble is the AquaClear - and it is many years older than the other two! The shop just wants to sell you something more expensive.
  12. I hope you know how big those pacus get!
  13. Welcome EVLGTZ. Everyone has their own preferences but I would agree with suemack on this - an AquaClear.
  14. They are illegal. Places like Kelly Tarlton's can apply for a special licence to keep them, I think.

    Questions

I thought being dormant meant the eggs were removed and dried in the peat?

    Questions

It isn't the same question is it? Pegasus had asked how long can eggs remain dormant but I think Marty has a species, like the scheeli for instance, who spawn in the mops and don't need a dormant period.

    heater problem

It is all relative isn't it? I too would say $1000 was expensive but if I was spending thousands on a set-up it would be considered cheap.

    boo from the south

Hi Marty. Glad you finally dropped in for a visit. Some of us meet regularly in the chat room around 9pm most nights. Perhaps we might see you there some time.
  19. I was warned to be careful with the trout pellets as they are 'richer' than other fish foods and will pollute the tank more readily if over-used.
  20. May be the weather having an effect too sue.
  21. I would try feeding them less too as it sure sounds like it is associated with feeding but I have not heard of fish having trouble with flake before.
  22. Always exciting though isn't it? Congratulations

    Hey everyone

You've never hunted heffalumps Alan? You haven't lived!!
  24. Have a look at this http://species.fishindex.com/plant_16.html
  25. Leopardfish??? I have been looking for some of those. Pretty please grow some up for me Alan. Don't know how I will get them off you but I am sure I will think of something
