    DIY Rock

When I had my coldwater marine set up I just used rocks from the rockpools I got the critters from. A lot less hassle.

    Tank pics

As I know nothing about marines I cannot comment on quality as such. By awesome I meant size - they certainly attract the customer to go look at them. It is also very hard to compare small pics on a web site to actually viewing the real thing as you don't get the effect of scale. I am sure I will be blown away by pies' set-up at the weekend.

    More hybrids

I saw a news report the other day about how released flowerhorns are devastating the local fish and plant populations. Being a lucky fish, when the novelty wears off people are too scared to kill them in case it attracts bad luck, so they release the fish into the local waterways. I am pleased to hear they are losing their popularity.

    what filter

I have gone off canisters. Their flow rates vary dramatically and they are a pain in the a** to clean. AquaClears are simple and take 5 minutes.
  8. Check your Year Book goldie as it has rules for the video competition. Would be good if you did some for the competition.

  10. Hi there xarianz and welcome. Don't be shy! Come and join us in chat one evening. There is usually a group of us in there from 9pm. Not me tonight though as I am going to see Billy Connolly!!! Did you know Dunedin has an aquarium club? Some of their members are here too.
  11. There are a few other spelling mistakes there Jack but I didn't like to mention them  Looking good so far and looking forward to progress reports and pics.

    Hello!

Don't start that agin Alan! http://www.nzfreshwater.org/galaxiids.html may be of interest to you. There are quite a few species and some may be restricted but I have kept the local variety. A very pretty fish. For those of you not sure what fish these are - they are the species commonly known as whitebait
  13. Congratulations polgara! They are pretty good survivors.
  14. plain newsprint or paper towels would work too.
  15. Gee, you must have a different recipe!

    Hello!

Hi and welcome budak. Hopefully we will see more of you and you will tell us a bit about what fish and/or plants you have.

    what filter

I wouldn't use an undergravel filter with goldfish as theyare too messy. I would use a HOB myself.
  18. It is a fund raising thing the FNZAS does. Stamps and phone cards are collected to sell second hand. It does not raise much but every it helps.

    hello

Hi Alisha and welcome. I understand feeding seahorses can be very time consuming!
  20. If they are also Ancistrus sp I would guess them to be the same. I don't suppose the snowflake is possibly just an albino colour morph? Personally I have not seen either of them but they sound interesting. I saw some blue ones on another site the other day and they looked neat! The long finned one wouldn't actually be a sailfin plec would it?
  21. I suspect a typo Rob and it was meant to be a Pak (Pakistani) loach but I may be wrong
  22. Welcome chuckles. What size is the tank and how long has it been set up? Is the pH usually that low in it? Does it have live or plastic plants and is it well planted or quite bare? How often do you do water changes? What are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate readings? What else is in the tank (eg decorations, driftwood etc) and what filtration are you using? I would suggest you find the cause of the problem rather than mask it with products to raise the pH.
