  1. What gets me is the number of members who have criticised the executive over the years for not organising a Show and when we do - where are they? I bet my entries are better than your entries
  2. You have shops selling leopardfish as guppies?? I do hope you pointed out to them the error of their name?
  3. None of the options fits as far as I am concerned. Cold water guppies are a misconception. Guppies can tolerate cooler temperatures than a lot of other tropicals but that does not make them cold water fish. In a well insulated and warm house they may be kept without a heater but the water will be about 18C which is not cold.
  4. Hi Jackie and welcome from the other side of the world.

Resize it in a photo editing programme
  6. That little bitty bit of rock cost $500?? Would help if he said what size the tank was.

I am considering a sump for my 6ft so would be interested in replies too. Particularly I need to know where to drill (and what size) the holes for the pipework as I would like to have it all not coming over the top of the tank necessitating gaps to be cut in the lid.
  8. A letter to MAF from the FNZAS would be an excellent idea Warren

    The other end krib

My book suggests Camallanus worms (when the fish remains stationary red or brown worms hang about 5 - 10mm out of the anus which is dilated). Treatment: Methylene Blue: 1ml stock solution to 1 litre water. Remove any carbon from the filters first.

My first thought was ... what is the pump attached to? This makes a difference to the answer
  12. Thanks Alan
  13. All sorts of stuff, fishy and non fishy will be auctioned. We won't know exactly what until the time but last auction saw fish, plants, live daphnia, books, filters, lights, really strong sellotape-like stuff, siphon pythons, heaterstats... umm... lots of other stuff.
  14. What is this rainbow can someone tell me? and in this case I mean the small blue rainbow at the top not the big one behind it

Welcome Alana. We have several ChCh dwellers in here. All agree Organism is the best place to go and it pays to pronounce it carefully

I am at work at the moment bart but will email you tonight the contact details of a man in Nelson who is trying to get a club up and running there again. He has joined our club in the meantime (I suggest you do too - I sent you the costs) and comes over here to attend meetings. Maybe you could hitch a ride with him?

Changing sex is known in the fishy world although sometimes it may be a late developing male. You can keep 2 males together if there are plenty of hiding places as one will always want to be dominant. Just keep an eye on them and if one seems to be getting harassed, remove it. Always make sure there are plenty of females to share
  18. Bright red??? They are "Fantail Orange"! I have never seen an orange fantail but there you go. Warren we have had a couple pull out due to unforeseen circumstances. I will email you names etc over the weekend.

The bottom one matches more, the top one is totally a different shape. Thanks for the help, I will assume it is the M splendida australis. If it isn't and the judges disqualify it I am not too worried. At least it is an entry!
  20. Caryl replied to Oscar the grouch's topic in Diseases
Sorry to hear the oscar died. Keep an eye out for early signs of illness on the other one.
  21. I used to use Adobe Photoshop but it was very unstable (particularly with XP) which is why I changed to Adobe Photo Elements.
  22. I would appreciate that Rob. Gotta enter my fish with the right name! I have tried to ID them myself but the pics I have found, all under the same name, are all totally different colours, stripes etc.
  23. I've done all that Warren but no one seems to be able to agree on the ID  . I know they are rainbows. I'm pretty sure they are both Melanotaenia but then I get stuck
