  1. I have daphnia wok but I doubt it would travel well that far. I hope to have enough to take some for the auction at the National Show in Napier in Sept. That howling southerly sweeping across the salt ponds was a killer wasn't it Alan? .
  2. What do you mean by 'one section missing' wok?
  3. Have peas for tea and pop one cooked one out of its shell and feed that to the bristlenose. Or a piece of cucumber (no need to cook it)
  4. It also helps if you actually attend club meetings to pick up your card. Why should they have to send it to you? (Unless you live too far out of town to attend meetings).
  5. Mine were eggs gathered from the salt works and just dumped in a container of sea water with some sand in the bottom. I then left them. They were never fed or anything.
  6. Ah you got sent a bulk lot split in 2 envelopes didn't you? I gather you got one envelope but not the other. The name tags were all in one of them but not your name as it was sellotaped to one of the envelopes. I definitely put mags in for you though. The breeding one I will bring to Napier. The one sent is for the NZKA
  7. If you send them to the treasurer then that will be correct Janey. Our secretary IS our treasurer so I did not differentiate
  8. Caryl

    again

Has it occurred to you it might be the rock that has laid the eggs? Hmm? Where do you think sand comes from?
  9. I read on another forum where someone's child fed their fish a glass of milk along with the tub of food. At least you know to keep the food out of reach now
  10. Er, which half did you get Alan? Can't help you re Fiji doch as we were on a resort island so didn't see any tanks.
  11. Lotsa plants, specially fine leaved ones like Java moss, are ideal for the babies to hide in. Remember it doesn't matter if the danios get some - if they didn't you would soon be over-run with fry!
  12. Thank you all. I was starting to worry about where they had got to!
  13. Then again, it is also possible Janey has sent it to the wrong secretary by mistake!
  14. The cards are sent to the person listed as club secretary according to the list the club sent for the YB.
  15. I would think full grown brine shrimps would be too big for guppies. Mine were gathered as eggs from Lake Grassmere Saltworks.
  16. Where are you? I am willing to come and visit you and help before you buy more fish or unneccessary meds, kits or equipment.
  17. Do you give discount to just your club members or all FNZAS members Kim? If all, why is your shop not listed in the magazines as offering discount? I would speak sternly to your club officers Midas!
  18. Yes we did it for fun. I gather adult brine shrimp have very little nutritional value as a food though.
  19. The cards get sent bulk to your club secretary who should send them out ASAP - usually with the next club newsletter (if your club has one).
  20. Thank you Logan. Fish_tank did a nice article didn't he?
  21. Err, where would we find some old vinegar Bill?
  22. Bad mix of fish and too many too fast. There is no way you can have that many fish in so small a tank. Has anyone told you about cycling a tank? A tank needs good bacteria to eat the waste the fishes produce. When you set up the tank with its under gravel filter (ugf) it was ready for the bacteria to grow but they can't do that until you add some fish to produce the waste. More waste = more bacteria and vice versa. As the bacteria grow you can slowly add more fish and so the tank 'cycles'. A tank that size can't handle the 14 fish you bought - even if it was fully cycled. If the shop sold you both the tank and the fish then they should have known better  Most likely the fins were 'burned' from the excess ammonia from the fish that the ugf couldn't cope with. Also the tetras would eat the fins on the Siamese fighter not the other way around. Neons can swim a lot faster than fighters. Your remaining fish may or may not survive their experience but keep up daily water changes to help get rid of the excess waste until the tank cycles properly. Do you have any test kits? I have some here and am happy to help if you live in Blenheim. Let me know and I will get you on the right track. Are you in Blenheim? Our club meets tonight and you are most welcome to attend. I am el presidente 18 Aug 7.30pm Flat 1,88b Scott St (back flat)

  24. Bristlenoses are not supposed to have long flowing fins they look ridiculous (just my opinion of course  ). Same goes for danios. I saw a pic of some somewhere but haven't actually seen any for sale.
  25. I think vinegar eels lost favour due to their size but I can't remember if they were considered too large or too small for a number of species. Wonder how many we would have to order in to make it worthwhile? Might be worth finding out but I am not that interested in them any more. It was just that I was going to do an article about them then realised it was a bit pointless since I couldn't find any in NZ.
