  1. Hard to tell without a pic. Is the eye cloudy as well? Has possibly damaged it.

    test kit

Handiest are pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
  3. Yes, I think the "dying overnight" is a clue too. Not necessarily a nocturnal predator either. I get all by driftwood from the beach, it would never occur to me to BUY it  I assume the substrate was all thoroughly washed when you set the tank up again after removing the UGF?
  4. No your substrate should not smell bad when you siphon it. May indicate you have been over feeding and stuff is rotting which would explain the cloudy water too.
  5. Give them whatever you want them to eat. When they are hungry enough they will eat anything
  6. Make sure you have way more females than males too, to spread the harrassment
  7. Will check you both when I get home tonight. Sorry Carla, didn't read the sig  Be aware, if you joined late last year, or this year, you will probably not be capitated by the club until now (after the club AGM) so your first magazine will not be until August.

    Hello hello!

If you have a local Woodworkers' Guild or club they may have someone who could help too. Or, if you want metal, any engineering firm ought to be able to do it.
  9. Plecs will do this all the time. It is normal

    Dying guppies

We had a similar problem. Bought one guppy and wiped out the rest of the tank. The new guppy had a bacteria that the others had no immunity to and it killed them all
  11. PM me your name and address Carla and I will check if you are on my list. What club did you join?
  12. I believe mine is marble and purchased cheaply at Briscoes.

    Hi all

Some of us are used to having people worship at our feet (either that or my socks smelled worse than I thought)
  14. The shorter, chunkier types of goldfish are notorious for swim bladder problems as their intestines get all squashed up in their shortened bodies so they find it harder to digest foods.
  15. Seems odd Loopy that Sharn got hers before you! But I find the post to her region is fastest - Wellington is slowest. Perhaps the posties stop to read them on the way Dixon, the NZ Aquarium World is a quarterly magazine published by the FNZAS and is NZ's only magazine for tropical, cold water and marine fish hobbyists. It is produced by hobbyists, for hobbyists. It is a 40 page A5 full colour magazine that is published Feb, May, Aug and Nov. All FNZAS members get a FREE copy but it is also available by subscription (or from some libraries - Auckland city, Marlborough, Dunedin and Hocken Libraries).
  16. I would have thought Loopy's children are younger than most

    Hi all

Welcome to The Fishroom. Did I meet you at the last meeting? 8)
  18. I like to use the ceramic noodles because they are vastly more efficient then any cheap alternative. As for rocks, it depends on the type. Some do nothing at all, while others will raise the pH.
  19. They should stand out Loopy. Speed them on their way please Actually, come to think of it, they should have already gone through there.
  20. Wonder if it is a lampeye or Norman's lampeye. Aplocheilichthys normani. It is a killifish. http://www.fishbase.org/Photos/Thumbnai ... fm?ID=2462
  21. I think if you pinch the tops out too they will branch out more and become more bushy.
  22. If it's coming out your ears you are planting it wrong Afrikan
  23. May Aquarium Worlds were posted yesterday morning :bounce:
  24. Can't be there Loopy but looking forward to seeing you at the end of the month
