  1. They will eat anything - including Java fern
  2. Sarah can you see if you can find out where they got it from? Places like Warehouse Staionery have a $120 or so one which is like the one I have. It is OK (mine has lasted 10 yrs so can't complain) but I would prefer something a little more robust. I found one (I think) at Raeco but it has been days since I applied for an account - which you have to have to find out the prices  . They thanked me for the application and sent a questionnaire, which I answered immediately, but I havn't heard back yet. Have now run out of black so am waiting until Friday to get a new one (backordered :-? )
  3. Puberty? Got a clear pic?
  4. The FNZAS has a breeding scheme for members. The aim is to encourage people to breed their fish. If you are a member of the FNZAS (ie belong to an affiliated club), have bred a species and have at least 10 fry survive over 30 days, you are asked to register it with the scheme. You get points for each species bred and less points for a rebreed. At the end of the 'year' (AGM to AGM) the person with the most points wins a very fine trophy.

    waste problem

I was going to say the same as Alan - don't feed it  Big fish produce more poo and if you want messy ones like oscar you need to get used to cleaning it out.
  6. I collect driftwood from the Hokitika beach and just give it a squirt with the hose and a good scrub.
  7. Remove the carbon entirely and replace with ceramic noodles.
  8. Generally thinking the fish don't seem to like being enclosed in the breeding nets for too long.
  9. First check to see it isn't resting against something that would cause it to vibrate. Next, check to see if a bit of crud is stuck somewhere. Did you clean out the impeller? It might create a hum if you haven't reseated it correctly.
  10. Telling us ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels would help. Could be shock, as said (probably due to water conditions) or possibly an internal infection perhaps. I am not too knowledgeable on fish diseases having rarely had to deal with any (touch wood)
  11. A deformed head? Is this the same one that is pale and spiralling? Email the pic to me and I will put it up for you if you like. Pics always help. If it is only one fish with symptoms I would set it up in another tank.
  12. What sort of filter and what sort of noise? Most noise comes from an airlock or problems with the impeller.
  13. Just started printing the May issue so hopefully it will be posted next Monday (assuming I can get the stapler to work). Anyone know where to buy good quality, heavy duty, long arm staplers?
  14. Well done James! Good luck with getting the Palmerston North club up and running again.
  15. Welcome and thanks for the discount 8)
  16. If she has no filter it won't matter if she changes all the water as it is all new anyway.
  17. You must be permanently buzzed then billaney

    hello

    Welcome mr pleco
  19. I wonder if she was egg bound.
  20. I have only ever just scrubbed the rocks before adding them to the tank
  21. I always get mine from road sides, beaches, river banks, hillsides etc
  22. Not usually. They all like their own space. Are you sure nothing special has been going on?
  23. Colour has nothing to do with it. If you have 2 dwarf gouramis of opposite sex they will breed no matter what colour.
