You get natural peat that has no fertilisers or mould inhibitors added.

I'm no expert on dwarf gouramis but I would say you have one of each. I thought females were hard to come by.

Shops have stuff called Liquifry. Comes in two types for egg layers or live bearers. Wilson; to qualify as a breeding you need a minimum of 10 fry after 30 days free swimming.

I have had BNs lying upsidedown at the surface while attached to a bit of floating cucumber

They can breed every 4 - 6 weeks. Not sure what time to put her in the trap though as too soon and she may abort and too late - same thing :roll: . I never used the traps.

Hi Dan0 and welcome. I read somewhere (aha, found it in the marine beginners guide sticky in the saltwater section) that canister filters aren't so good for marine set-ups. The reason is that nitrate reducing bacteria cannot function in a highly aerated environment, and use of these filters will result in a build up of nitrate to levels that are harmful to many reef dwelling creatures.

Sounds like cyanobacteria which isn't actually an algae so algae stuff won't get rid of it. I don't know how CO2 affects it. Usually I suggest blacking out tank for a few days but not sure if you can do that with CO2 running. As a final resort you can use Erythromycin to get rid of it but it is a prescription only medicine and doesn't help if you don't know the cause so it may return.
