  1. The tank in the pic is a 4ft. I can't see ply bowing in a gap the size as shown, even on a larger tank. Having the base means it is evenly supported. If the middle row was removed it would definitely sag. See I also have some blocks running the other way at the back too.
  2. Fish are opportunistic feeders. In the wild they would go for anything that dropped into their water (ie fruit off trees). Try various things and see if they like them. Blanch stuff like cabbage first as it is too tough for them to digest fully. It is the full bodied fancy goldfish who usually develop the swim bladder problems. They have such contorted intestines, thanks to the selective breeding, that it doesn't take much to upset them. My pond fish (comets and fantails) all feed flake at the surface with no problems. I have never bothered feeding them anything else. They also get plenty from what drops in from above in the way of insects.
  3. I often use cinder blocks as a cheap stand. Not pretty but you can cover them with cloth. The holes are handy storage It has a sheet of customwood then polystyrene under it. The other layer is a Pinex under tank heat pad.
  4. Unless they are chasing the chicken in there

    Who's eggs?

Nope but I don't have any snails either 8)
  6. I had filter wool in the top basket and filled the rest with ceramic noodles.

    Who's eggs?

I go for snail eggs. If they were fish eggs they would have been eaten by now.
  8. I have never heard of a connection between fish tanks and the number of flies you get. The few flies I have are never anywhere near the tanks. I have 3 Jesus flies. I spray them at night, they die, then in the morning there are 3 flies buzzing about again! Of course it might not be the same 3 flies but I have my suspicions!
  9. It is also because the males are more colourful and people want colourful fish
  10. They always look depressed and mutinous! Being opportunistic they will probably have a go at most things. Try various fruits and vegetables. Make sure they have not been sprayed, or have been washed well. Peeling them may be a good idea if you are unsure. I have had my daughter out-law here and even though she fed the fish every time she went out to the pond (which was often) they always acted as though they were neglected and starved!
  11. Looks like a sailfin plec to me, Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps
  12. They removed 4 of mine to supposedly make room but I still have crooked teeth and still had to have the wisdom teeth removed due to lack of space.
  13. Once you have rested from all that hard work, you might like to tie Java moss or fern to the pot.
  14. My doctor has 5 kids, the youngest is in his late 20's and none of them have ever needed any fillings or dental work! :-? I had my wisdom teeth out as an adult. I lost 2 fillings while pregnant with my 2nd child and while he was having his heart surgery. They said pregnancy and stress can cause this  I also have problems due to tetracycline treatments I had as a teen. I do not like the needles but hate the noise even more (and I don't mean me or the dentist screaming. Me cos it hurts, him cos he got kicked by me  ) I also hate the vibrations from the drills, especially the slow one!
  15. If both of them are laying the eggs then they are both females. If one is doing the laying and the other following along behind fertilising them, then you have a pair. The slightest disturbance will upset the angels and they will probably eat the eggs.

I hate to have to tell you this but several of your fish are not suitable for your tank as they grow too large. Common plecs grow over 30cm (and quickly). They need at least a 250L tank. Kissing gouramis grow up to 15cm too.
  17. My husband had most of his teeth removed (all together) by an oral surgeon using the sedation method rather than GA. We had some lengthy conversations after they were removed, he discussed after-care with the nurse etc but had no memory of it the next day. He remembered walking into the hospital but nothing else until he woke up on the sofa. He took 2 days off work cos they said he had to and wasn't allowed to drive but, apart from dozing off and on the first day, was up and working on computers the next day. I am from the older generation who referred to the dental clinic as The Murder House - for good reason! Thanks to some horrific dental work inflicted upon me as a child, without the fancy anaesthetics, high speed drills etc they have today, I avoid going to the dentist until the pain gets too much.
  18. Any chance of a photo Jaide?
  19. I've never seen my gouramis anywhere near the bottom. They are definitely mid to top dwellers.
  20. It will get easier once the roots are more established. I do not vacuum too closely to plant bases.
