We will start pulling his wings out then so he gets used to it. It might help us figure out which bits are which matching the diagram! :lol: Still wondering how long it will be before he can actually fly and how we know (apart from having him take off) when it needs to be done. I hope we get some warning :-? There is quite a bit of conflicting, or different, advice out here so I am going with Jennifer and Mark. Tha American site made me laugh as it gave all the options for getting fruit and veg in a way that seemed to assume the majority can't just get them from the garden or fridge. Pepper now has his own little lunch box made from the stuff chiller boxes are made with with an area his bowl fits in plus 2 smaller areas for water dish and a small seed dish. This goes with him in the car.

We will probably need tips on restraint when the time comes. My dad used to clip chicken wings so he will probably have a good idea on what to do. The website Livingart recommended also has detailed instructions I believe but I have been reading so much other information (have printed out a "Conure Instruction Manual") I have not looked at that bit yet :roll: The day out with Grant went very well and both seemed to enjoy themselves. They went up some very rough tracks so I am sure Pepper got plenty of exercise just clinging on to the headrest! He has spent the evening on Grant's shoulder making regular little chirrup noises so we hope that is good :-?

What is the tank sitting on? I found a filter became noisy when I shifted a tank onto a less dense cabinet. Perhaps it is vibrating with resonance (or whatever) with the stand. What sort of lid is on it? Are you able to put a small piece of wood, metal etc across the top corner of the tank then hang the filter from this with a bit of string or fishing line? Arrange it so it is almost, but not quite, touching the glass.

He took towels It went very well. They came home to reload then headed off down the Sounds. He wondered if Pepper got carsick as he upchucked a bit of seed at the top of the Weld pass but thinks it was coincidence as it was otherwise fine. I doubt birds get carsick since they are designed to cope with getting blown about in trees! He took Bud's old cage as a standby on the passenger seat and apparently Pepper spent most of the time sitting on top of the cage or on the headrest.

I am a Scrooge and refuse to pay the highly inflated charges they have for food at cinemas. I go (on the rare occasion I actually attend a film) with a bag pre-loaded with cheaper nibbles from the supermarket To get back on topic (sort of) do not feed Tangy Fruits to your axolotl. The sugar content is not good for them (and the water probably isn't good for the Tangy Fruits either) :lol:

Pepper has just gone off to work with Grant so he will get to visit a couple of cell sites on top of local hills 8) He went outside with Grant, just sitting on his shoulder, and stayed there while Grant loaded the truck. We can only do this if we continue to keep his wings clipped. How long does it take for them to grow out enough to fly and is it cruel to keep them clipped? He has never had the opportunity to fly so I doubt he will miss not being able to. He can glide about 3m but not so good at landing :roll: I want Grant to take him to work with him as he is the one who wanted a bird and with the long hours he is working, Pepper never sees him and will bond with me by default. I want him to bond to Grant. Jennifer; how long do I have to cook the haricot beans? I have been following the instructions for the red kidney beans to get the lectin (or whatever) out of them but don't know how long the others take to reach the required cookedness :-?

I kept mine in a large triangular fibreglass fish pond. They were in full sun all day every day and on the north side of the house so high temps weren't a problem for the ones I kept. A different species perhaps.

I wonder if they get to be too many in the container, lack of oxygen, so the whole lot goes?

Can you still get Tangy Fruits? Here's old for you - who remembers having to stand up for God Save the Queen before the film started? (and we called them films then, not movies) :lol: We couldn't afford to buy lollies on the rare occasions we got to go to the pictures

Then ignore Phoenix and don't lump the rest of us in with him. His last post was unnecessarily rude as far as I am concerned. Livingart is correct and I think it is a problem with semantics. You are not ignorant and your fish are fine in the lower temperature. I could keep those fish the same way here over summer but certainly not in winter. My concern was that beginners could misunderstand and think those fish were true cold water species when they are not. Whatever, I don't think you should leave a forum because of one person. I also suggest you don't put the fish in with the axies as axies will try and eat anything that moves in front of their face :roll:

I'm sorry you feel you were attacked and criticised but that was not the case. We were merely trying to help you keep your fish in the best possible conditions for them. I am sure your fish are fine in Auckland temperatures but to claim you are being attacked when we are merely trying to correct a common misconception is unfair.

These are Tasti Cashew Pieces packed in an environmentally controlled atmosphere to ensure they stay fresher for longer! (according to the packet). It also says they are a popular snack when roasted and salted so I will assume these are plain. There is no ingredient list except a warning to say they may have traces of other nuts processed in the same factory. Anyway, time for more pics... Here is Pepper enjoying a breakfast of apple, Weetbix, kiwifruit, bran, peach, muesli and broccoli. I suspect he only ate the apple although he did eat a little broccoli later. and here is his house... He was funny today as I put him in his cage when I went to town and boy did I get a telling off when I came home to let him out again! :lol: He muttered away and was quite grumpy for a while :lol: He is going to be real upset on Friday as I will be at work all day!

Small town life isn't always great Jennifer as some time ago, in this same small town, my bag was stolen (with wallet inside) so this makes up for it :bounce: She really appreciated her thank you gift 8)

I walked into town today, as usual, and realised at my destination that my wallet had fallen out of the backpack! PANIC!!! I started walking back the way I came looking everywhere (a 4km journey). Texted Grant to see if he was still home. Luckily he was just driving down the same road so started looking too. I then got 2 phone calls, both from guys called Mike! Mike 1 was a cop who said someone had found my wallet and had left it at Meaters (a butcher shop halfway up the road I had walked) then Mike 2, who was the owner of Meaters, to say he had it in the office. A lovely lady had picked it up outside and left it there to be collected. Money and cards all intact. I don't usually have cash in my wallet but had my birthday money in there this time! The thought of having to cancel cards etc was also daunting so I am very relieved it was found by an honest person I am off to buy her flowers and choccies as a thank you, as she left her name and phone number

None of the toys in the pack have mirrors on them so that won't be a problem. We didn't get anything mirrored for Bud either as we knew that wasn't good. I have just been to the supermarket and got some brown rice, red kidney beans, haricot beans and cashew nuts so will make up the recipe tonight. I already had the other ingredients.

The idea to contact those companies is a good one. I forgot you could do that (like deferring mortgage payments) and you will find them very helpful if you keep them informed. My daughter has been going through her (extensive) CD collection and selling off on Trademe the ones she no longer listens to. She has been amazed at how much she has been making and many of them don't have covers any more (she keeps them in a CD wallet and I suspect many of the covers are in a box in our garage somewhere)!

A little more detail would help. What sort of container are they in? Inside or outside? A lot of daphnia in it, or a little?

I hope he lives a long happy life. I cried today when I cleaned out Bud's cage and packed away his toys At the moment we are new parents worried we are doing it wrong. Conures are different to budgies :-? (one of the reasons we got it, as it wouldn't remind us of Bud so much. Couldn't get another budgie)
