  1. The competition is supposed to be anonymous entries Joe :-?
  2. I believe this is the key point. I do not think it fair to blame mum for not wanting you to disturb the whole household because you had been too lazy to do it when you should. Joe is lucky to have parents as lenient as they are to allow him to do the things he already does.
  3. My son is still waiting to be assessed after the Sept quake :-?
  4. My lotus' big leaves always go like that. I just chop them off.
  5. There you go then, as spoon says, in a really big quake it doesn't matter what you do :tears:
  6. Locked at tHEcONCH's request since it no longer exists
  7. All I can say is to give it a go and keep a close eye on the water parameters. For some reason small goldfish can be taken from a pond to tank but bigger ones have a lot more difficulty adjusting. Although you already have fish in the tank they will produce a lot less waste than goldfish (which are very messy) so the filter will need to build up a lot more good bacteria to process the wastes. Be prepared to do a steady number of good sized water changes for a while once the fish are added to the tank.

That is the first time I have heard of fish keeping being an "old man's hobby"! Judging from the number of keen teens keeping fish in here it is unlikely to become so either.
  9. The Feb Aquarium World also had an article about it, with comments on what happened in individual cases. These were taken from previous threads in this forum related to the September quake so do a search. 8) Basically, those tanks on solid, wooden stands (or solid furniture) seemed to fare best, especially those with a lip around the edge to hold the tank in place.
  10. Goldfish often don't make the transition from a larger pond to a smaller tank successfully. How large is the pond? What size and type of goldfish are the fish? How many do you plan to move to the tank? Is there a time limitation? Any way you can run the tank filter on the pond? If so, run it on there one month to cycle it then transfer it, with the fish, to the tank. If this is not possible; I would set the tank up, using pond water, then add the filter and a fish or two to cycle for one month, then add another couple of fish. A lot depends on the answers to the above questions.

You practise martial arts on your fish, or you teach them martial arts??
  12. I hope your fish keeping endeavours go well. 8)
  13. At 6 I would think she has settled down by now, especially as she will be added to another tank, and not other inhabitants being added to hers.

  16. I think if a place is often looking for staff there must be something wrong :tears: Hope you find something you enjoy soon.
  17. I would stop the feeding for a few days then try the peas again. If she is a fussy eater she may be hungry enough to eat the peas
  18. That's a start. Have you tried warming the water temp a little?
  19. Orandas tend to be fatties anyway. If it looks like all the scales (including those on top) are sticking out like a pinecone, then it is dropsy and the fish is doomed. If the scales are only sticking out around the fat belly, it is more likely to be constipated.
  20. I wonder if the fish actually ate the peas. Look up info on Epsom Salts baths. They can recover. It could be swim bladder or constipation.

  22. We have just been out catching live crickets and grasshoppers for the frogs :tears:
  23. She has probably died and the remains eaten. Any spine left would quickly sink into the substrate and be hard to see.
  24. This is a family forum so I can't tell you what Grant said in reply Ryan  We shall be careful and hide from marauding police! 8)
