  1. Interesting. I'll put some filterwool in my crappy little filter. Depending on the funds I may buy another filter for the juwel. I find that when the leaves die or break, they crumble and go everywhere! Very annoying!
  2. I see. I am treating the tank now, have been since sunday. Bottle said 1 drop per litre on the first day, then X amount on each 3rd day. I assume keep treatment for a week. Sound correct?
  3. I am sick of it. When I first set up a tank it is usually very very clear, but after that whenever I clean the tank it turns disgusting with debris everywhere. Does anyone have crystal clear water? If you do, please let me know what to do. Admittedly I do have a small filter in the tank but it only has 2 fish in it. (60L tank) Or is clean water just a myth? PS: My juwel filter always sends out HEAPS of carp after I turn it off for cleaning. What should I do?
  4. Bit late, but happy birthday all the same.
  5. I think it is, I guess the quality of the video and the youtube channel look pretty legit. Did a quick good search and there is a bit of info, but not much at all. It seems to amazing to dream up anyway.
  6. I've already got a few bits of duckweed growing and I can grab some from my LFS, so I may as well try both. Duckweed did look good, but I remember that it is near impossible to get rid of. Also it used to end up 4cm thick at the end of my tank.
  7. I see. Don't know if I read it in here, on in a different site but it something along the lines of... There is always ich amongst your gravel and (something to do with in the gills although this sounds rather too serious to be acknowledged as harmless... But then.. when your fish get stressed etc etc etc. Thats enough to keep me satisfied about my knowledge of whitespot... Maybe not for you though
  8. Your answer is within stella's quote. When the fish get stressed, (in my case losing power and then colder water) the fish's immune system weakens and the present parasites can take hold.
  9. Not sure how long you have had it, but once they start growing, they grow well. Mine is just starting to send out lillypads which I originally wanted it to do. Just before I want to change the tank. =(
  10. I am after or interested in getting some floating plants to dim the light in my tank. Would prefer something other than duckweed and something more like this : Is this stuff even available?
  11. Within an hour I assume. What is in it? There is such thing as putting a pot of hot water in there.
  12. Yeah, it doesn't sound good. I will keep an eye out for it and will be ready for when it returns. I would assume though that not all the parasites detach and reproduce in unison so they will always be present on the fish.
  13. Thankyou, didn't realize that was the case. They would have been stressed by me catching twenty something neons and moving the tank around yesterday.
  14. Since the quake saturday morning and then losing power for 4 hours, my tank got dow to about 22 degrees. There was no loss of life but I have been looking out for white spot since. Yesterday, just before going to bed I had one more check over and BOOM, my 2 orange discus were covered in white spots. It wasn't grains of sand like it sometimes is and they were everywhere. I had to keep myself calm and assure myself they would be fine until the morning. This morning when I woke up I had another look to see how they were doing and the spots have almost all vanished. One of the discus has 2 of the little dots on that fine dotted line running across its body, which I think is just a superficial wound from bumping into something, but it has about 2 other spots left. The other orange discus only has about 2 dots left also. Only the two orange ones have been effected from what I can see. Back to the main point, Yesterday night they were everywhere, this morning they're pretty much gone. Is this normal? Is it whitespot? Should I still treat? Is it gone?
  15. Aaaahhh the Irish Pub. Felt a few shocks today, nothing major though.
  16. I see. So what do you guys think? A few of these in the 240 would work? Or not?
  17. That might be necessary! Too many options, as I will have the money I want to make the right decision. Edited OP to answer these questions, yes they would go in there. Tank mates would be just a pleco and probably not much else.
  18. They were still quite small so not too colourful. They were covered in little blue/silver shiney spots is all I can remember. Which I guess is pretty universal among geos.
  19. After visiting organism today, to check out some firemouths, I stumbled upon some G. surinamensis. (Red striped earth eater) The sign or label stated that they reach 20cm but I had originally disregarded them as an option as I thought they were about 30cm. After searching the interwebz I find this: "True Geophagus Surinamenses are very rarely seen in the US aquarium, if ever." If this is true, I would assume this applies to NZ as well. So my question is, would these be the real deal and is the sign wrong? Or are they just said to be G. surinamenses but actually a variant and the sign saying 20cm is correct? Don't want to get my hopes up of getting some yet so I'm looking for someone with some experience. Otherwise, the Firemouths they had there are looking good. Tank is a 55g Juwel Rio, tank mates will be a pleco and possibly a knifefish.
