  1. A friend has a similar issue with the same type of fish, he was in a pond, and has done the peas etc, but still not right, has been on his side for over a week, and sounds almost constipated. He was feeling pellets. Is there anything else he can try.
  2. I'll look into this during the week the tee piece idea is perfect, as I am missing a walking stick, and the tubing has been cut too short for my setup.
  3. Thats an idea, I have 3 spray bars, and plenty of drills. If I added a second set of holes at a 45 degree angle to the other ones, would that be sufficient I wonder?. Only foreseeable issue, is finding a suitable tee piece. I still have 2x return pipes, but that's not much of an issue I guess. Might just plub it up tomorrow as is, for now, and see how it looks.
  4. Yeah, 1000, sorry. Hmm, ok, ill have to have 2x spray bar etc. It's a pity, as the return pipe has been cut, so i might need to purchase a new one, oh well. I have just serviced it, and replaced all the seals, and used ehiem noodles in the first basket, and aqua one noodles in the second basket, with 3x filter pads, so its all clean and new, its in the garage testing in a bucket at the moment, if no leaks are found, I will move it too the house tomorrow, and install it in my tank, to boost filtration.
  5. That's what I have read as well, so that's cool, can I link 2 canisters together, or will that screw up the flow? one is rated at 100lph, and the other is 1200lph.
  6. I purchased a CF1000 of a user, and am about to set it up. I have 2 lots of bioballs and ceramic noodles, but only room for one or the other, unless I mix them. which is better noodles or balls?. I already have a cf1200 set up and running, which has both. The other question is, can i run one filter into the other and back out, sort of daisy chaining them, as I dont want to clutter up my tank with a second spraybar and return pipe. Any help would be great, thanks.
  7. Let me know when you get it sorted, and what you used, even a tutorial thread. I want to do this too, but don't know where to start.
  8. I have pretty much come to the same conclusion regarding my ar620.
  9. Thanks, After getting quotes for everything I need, inc the Marisys skimmer, it is just not cost effective to convert this tank. I really like this tank, but cant justify another grand on top for a skimmer and lights, when I can buy a red sea max for around the same money
  10. Hey all I have been toying with the idea of late, and decided I should at least do a few things to help me if I do. One of which was to add a sump, if I decide against marine, I can still use it to hide the heater, the UV and can use to add filter bags with Ph buffers etc. I have that all sorted, and will go ahead with it soon, my next question is lighting. I decided I don't mind replacing the light hood, and filter unit (I have a canister anyways) with something a little better suited to marine. So far I have found 2 units that look suitable for my tank the Aqua One T5 Over Tank Luminaire, which I can't find on HFF website, but I assume they can get it, or the Aqua One MG 600 Metal Halide. Both of these units can be fitted to the top of my tank, and then all I need is some perspex to make a new lid, and we are good to go, my question is t5's or MH which one should I use? After I have the light sorted, and the tank drilled, and the sump plumbed up, all i need to do is sort out a skimmer (something small), and some lighting for the cabinet, so I can see the sump, and I guess I am set to start cycling for a marine. Anything else I am missing. The only thing I can think of is a power head to create some turbulence in the tank, but otherwise it should be ok. With the sump, and tank, and canister filter the total water volume should be around 150l with rock added, I plan to keep 2 clown fish, and maybe a shrimp, or some cleaners, and that's about it, a couple of leathers, or some corals would be nice also. Oh and the canister filter will be stripped of its media, and maybe have 6 inches of sand in the bottom of it, as Im aware that freshwater filtration is not good for marine (someone care to clarify if I am right or wrong), otherwise I ditch the canister filter all together, and lose about 7l, but could possibly add a second sump, giving me another 20l or so. If i do ditch the canister idea, what about this http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/prod ... php?id=943 has overflow box, and skimmer and everthing?
  11. is there going to be a build thread, because this interests me.
  12. Lovely hobby ain't it.
  13. I'm expecting an outbreak from some plants i got on the weekend, if i get them, ill let you know.
  14. It's a tough one, on the one hand you look after the big spenders, on the other, the smaller business struggle to comete, but you make a higher profit selling to them, even if it is a lower volume. Personally, id rather sell $500 worth of product at a 30% gp to 5 stores, then a $1000 dollars at 15% gp to 2 if ya get my drift.* * figures are not my strong point after a long day, and this late at night, I hope that made sense.
  15. I wanted to get the back of my ar620 drilled, but going by this, it's unlikely i can get it done.
  16. Grammar Nazis have their place, a hobby forum is not one of them in my opinion. Not everyone is good with English. But, I agree, if your written word is poor, use a spell checker. Some words like "your" and "you're" change the entire context of a sentence, same with "there" and "their" To the OP, generally with on sellers, they have price differences, due to the amount they purchase. A small shop would receive a smaller discount, than say animates.

    CO2

I have been looking for a pro style setup for a while. I have no worries about hiring a bottle, and getting it filled, the company i work for has accounts with BOC so that makes life easier, has anyone used this system from HFF http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/prod ... hp?id=1049 . I keep forgetting to ring them and ask how much it is, I figure a sodastream setup is going to cost approx $200 all up if this is around $200-300 I figure it is worth while, as the co2 bottle from boc will last longer, giving less maintenance, and has timers and decent diffusers, and it would all fit in my (not built yet) sump so its all out of sight. Only if the reg set is the right price of course. Time to email HFF methinks Thoughts? PS I don't have a credit card, and ebay seems like soooooo much hassle, hence i am looking for something local.
  18. Shoddy???? I use paint, now that's shoddy. Is that Solidworks?
  19. What gravel is that, its very nice looking.
  20. Not a fan of the mollies. Sword tails might be a goer. I'm liking the rams more and more. I'm almost set on Bolivian rams. Now i just need to get me some moss, and some more ambulia.
  21. I have also run these, and they work very well over my ambulia and hair grass I had in my last tank.
  22. If you decide to build another, or do take it down, let me know, i can drop you a plane at any time, i go past your place on the way to work sometimes.
  23. Good to hear, will check em out at HFF next week. thanks.
