  1. I rang HFF and asked for pricing on all 3 options last week, no one got back to me. This is the second time I have rang and asked for a quote, and the second time no one got back to me. It's as if they don't want to make sales. I guess the recession isn't hitting them too hard. I am going to email a few of their competitors around the middle north island up, and see how much I can get one for, I don't mind driving to Hamilton to save some coin. Company cars for the win.
  2. Added 1/4 teaspoon, waited an hour tested, and my nitrate is still 0ppm. added a pinch more, and waited till now and tested again, still 0. How long does it normally take to see an increase? Do i need to add more? tank is about 140l minus gravel wood and substrate?
  3. I have manually removed bucket loads of cyno, in prep for dosing potassium nitrate. I have done a 40l water change, and letting everything settle, Ill dose with Flourish Excel, and Flourish, and let that settle, and test all water parameters, and dose the Potassium Nitrate in a couple of hours. How long do you reckon it will take to see an decrease in cyno? I removed all the driftwood, and removed the cyno from the java fern roots, and syphoned as much as I could from the sp microfilia bases. On a side note, I also planted some more java fern on a second piece of driftwood, and added that to the tank. It's starting to look like a jungle, which is the look I want, I just need to get this cyno under control, its driving me nuts.
  4. Excellent. Do you mix the powder/crystals into a water mix first? Or just dump the 1/4 teaspoon in and good to go?
  5. 50% water change! Do your fish mind? Do you do the water changes because of the no3 etc, or because you have messy fish?
  6. Bought some on trademe for $4 lol. Now i just need John to tell me how much to use, and how he doses it?
  7. Were on rain water, so It has very little of anything. I'm trying to get me some NO3, from trademe, but I don't want to buy a kilo of it, as I just wont use that in a lifetime lol.
  8. Yeah, there is one on trade me at the moment, its a aquamarine 900, it's been through a few hands but that's not too much of an issue.
  9. So I need to find something with out urea in it. Is that even possible with plant ferts?
  10. Ok, so the cyno is as prevalent as ever. I have manually removed as much as I can, but it keeps coming back, and I can't remove all of it, due to obstructions like rocks, and wood. I have just done a 20% water change, dosed with Flourish, and Flourish Excel. So I'm ready to try Potassium Nitrite. We have some Yates Thrive here, which is a liquid Plant Fertilizer. On the back of it it tells me it contains: Total Nitrogen (N) as Urea 12.4% Total Phosphorus (P) as water soluble 3% Total Potassium (K) as Hydroxide 6.2% Magnesium (Mg) as Sulphate 0.01% Manganese (Mn) as EDTA Chelate 0.008% Iron (Fe)as FDTA Chelate 0.008% This Product contains less than 1ppm Lead 0.5ppm Cadmium and 0.2ppm Mercury. This product contains 50% w/v solids and 50% w/v water. Will this product be suitable for my needs?
  11. Semi Interested. I'd like something a little more compact (not size, but equipment), or at least covered, and the mechanicals hidden. As well as fitting with in my space requirements. The RSM has always sparked my interest, but $2700 seems way over priced, hence I was looking at the Aquareef 200. Good to know. I was hoping you would post. Your opinion? If you HAD to choose between the 3 options, which one would you choose? This will be a starter setup (hence the all-in-one), till we get our own house, and I can build something more permanent. But while we are renting, I want something I can move with relative ease if the times comes, and seeing as we live in a 1 bedroom house, something small (~200l), but also neat and tidy.
  12. I'm stuck on which of these would be better. The 200 is 200l, where the 900 is only 176, but the 200 has a refugia, where the 900 has a stand alone Marisys system. Which is better? I don't know. The 200 has a separate skimmer. Can someone who knows more point me in the right direction? Am I even looking at the right products? Or would a red sea max 130d be a better option. I am limited to space, and these tanks are about as big as I can go unfortunately. Any thing bigger that the 900, and I wont be able to get into the room housing them. http://www.aquaone.co.uk/aquareef200.php http://www.aquaone.co.uk/aquamarine_900.php Specs on the 200 Specs on the 900
  13. I wish my ambulia would stay at that height. I'm about to rip it all out of my tank, as I'm sick of it.
  14. Potassium nitrate is fertiliser?
  15. How high is the ammonia? How cycled is the tank? Was the tank new when you added the fish from the fun days?
  16. Its an API test kit. 0.0 0.25 0.5 1.0 2.0 5.0 10.0 Mine is at 0.0, or possibly .025 No more than that.
  17. Actually yeah, 3 weeks, I didn't see that. Test your water and post the results. If you don't have a test kit, I would invest in one, or get Animates or HFF to test the water for you.
  18. I like the Trillineatus cories, Might have to get me 4 of them instead of more pandas.
  19. All I know, when I went to animates last weekend, 6 of their tanks were green with what I assume was methyl green for ICH, 2 more tanks had dead fish in them floating at the top (not one fish, but in one tank 3), and the fish nets were on the floor near the tanks. I decided against purchasing any fish at that point. Which sucked because they had some pandas I wanted, and HFF is out at this point.
  20. Guess so. Sorry, I can offer you some cuttings late on once its established? I could swap you for some cuttings from your sword? Update.
  21. I'm not wanting to screw with the pH at all, as I'd rather it be 6.8-9 and be stable, than lower, and fluctuate. I prefer my tanks LOW maintenance, hence all the plants, and low stocking. I added a new AL-20D lighthood today, and rearranged my driftwood, and Java Fern. Looks a lot better to me, and soooo much brighter. And no more ugly heater and filter intake on display, now for the spray bar hiding mission
  22. I have been testing for phosphate daily for the last 2 weeks, and non has been present, i'll continue testing and see if i can get some to come up on the test chart.
  23. That's my plan. I have been eyeing up a AL-20D 24inch double light hood, that will fit perfectly on my tank, so that's next on the list of purchases, but I doubt that's going to help this issue. I'll just keep cleaning what I can see and go from there. Cheers.
  24. My uv filter is on 24/7. I manually removed about the same amount 2 weeks ago, and yesterday removed about half as much again. I have just started dosing with Flourish, and flourish excel, and will manually remove as much as I can tomorrow night. Considering getting the Nitrates up to around 5ppm, but a little unsure of how to do this, but many sites recommend doing this to stop the cyno. Your thoughts on this?
