  1. May you could humbly offer to take the BN (sell it on here if you can't have it at home) and offer to find them another fish that is more suited to the others? Or ask for the contact details of the fish keeper and see if you can persuade him, based on your observations
  2. those sneaky buggers have outsmarted me again! :an!gry my seperated male managed to squeeze through the divider and is reunited with his girlfriend. Now that I know even a tight fitting divider is not satisfactory I'm back where I was when i tried to make the divider with rubber seals that killed the fry........... :digH:

  9. I'll PM you and we can work out a visit/swap ... I can give you a fish and you can give me Sherlock  Next question for breeding nerds - how do you get around having males and females seperated but them being so scatty because they are alone or in a very small group? I just seperated my male and female and the male promptly started banging his head on the divider trying to get through. Will he still eat and do the business under that sort of stress? (They both have moss to hide in.)
  10. The first batch of dwarf spotted rasbora I got were pale peach like the ones in the shop now and then they went deep peach/orange. I've topped up the numbers a couple of times and they have all pretty much done the same, to varying degrees of peachiness. You could get any sort of mini fish of that size and the CPDs would come out and swim more I reckon. Another idea is I could buy the remaining 3 CPDs from you and see if I can get some fry , or you could PM Luke* and see if he's coming to Auckland soon as he is better at it than me and is looking for new strains. Come and have a look at my tank and bring Sherlock! I'm in Three Kings now, disasterously close to HFF.
  11. We had a discussion on adding cycle every water change a while back. Some think it's a complete waste of money, some people do it regardless. In the end it's up to you. Amb44, if I do the water change with a stocking I usually end up pulling out as much of the water as I want to until I have as much gunk as I can get without leaving no water for the fish. Problem with a normal stocking is that the fine stuff still passes through so either you have to leave it to settle a bit first and leave a couple of litres in the bottom of the bucket, or just pour it back in anyway. I've also tried it with a bunched up chux cloth and that collects much of the fine stuff too. So in the end maybe you swap out a few litres but it's nowhere near as much as if you chucked out buckets at a time.
  12. From time to time I do a water change and put a stocking over the end so the main gunk gets collected and then I put the siphoned water back in the tank. This is because I have what most people would call a nano tank and I try to keep the water changes to small amounts so as not to affect the water chemistry too much. Sometimes I just can't help myself though and I'll do a water change using fresh water.
  13. You can have my 2 female spotted/maculatus rasbora if you like, but they'll need some about 4 more friends. They are very brave fish for their size if you still have a mossy base the males will colour up really well. In the shop they are reasonably pale and peachy but when they've settled they go bright orange/red. I doubt dither fish will help with breeding but it might get your fish out in the open a bit more so you can spy on them and fatten them up a bit. They definitely don't feed as well without a shoal. Mine are like ravenous wolves nowadays, if you go near the tank they all come to the glass.
  14. whatever it is it's funny :gigl:

  16. Long time no read Ice222! My latest update is that I have one pair in a breeding tank however they went straight from the community tank to the breeding tank without any special conditioning. My husband is going to sort out my tank divider tomorrow and then I can seperate them and try to feed them up. The only problem I find is that when they aren't in a big group they don't feed very well so I don't ever feel like they are getting well fed. It's possible they are as they are sneaky little critters who will eat when I'm gone, but still it's not like when you go to the tank and everyone swarms to the front for food. According to what I've read and have been told, they don't breed so well in a big group as the ones that aren't actively spawning are eating the eggs, so it's better to keep them in a little group or pairs. I only ever had a few fry in the community tank right in the beginning when I removed the sparkling gourami, and after that no more. Do you know what sex your remaining 3 are?
  17. for some reason I never get sick of photos of frogs humping  they are so funny the way they snuggle up to each other with such straight faces :sml2:
