Marine - too hard, too expensive Ant, what other small cichlids can I have in a 60L tank? Maybe you misread and thought I said 600L :sml2: Today I was thinking more on turning it into a currenty loach tank with gravel, rocks and sand, and some suitable plants. Maybe get a powerhead and get a couple of suckers, depending if they are compatible. Then I'd use the crypt loach/corydora tank for a pair of apistos or rams perhaps. Something a little sedate to reflect the calm atmosphere in there and lots of hidey places in the plants. check out this shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/chicksinhats I love it!
  2. I would look like that too if my poo wouldn't come out. :tears: Poor kitty.

what are your ideas? so far I've got: cherry barbs and plants apistos and plants and caves, though I haven't read up on them properly yet hillstream loaches in a rocky river bed (with extra current) another small cichlid of some sort, a cute little cave dweller (but not shellies) - condition being that they have to live peacefully together [never had cichilds before) a collection of bright platies and plants. I like those bright yellow ones. bigger group of dwarf chain loaches and then get something else to live with the corydora in their previous tank am going to go and watch a silly movie to take my mind off thinking about it. Having an empty tank is worse than having money in my pocket burning a hole :sml2:
  4. oh no look at his sorry little face! That's the closest to crying I've ever seen a cat. what happened to him!?
  5. why do you think you need a new light tube?

Yes I will do that as I like to use the photo thread as a tank log. To tell you the truth my brain is spinning. I hadn't even contemplated keeping it as a third tank and my mind is abuzz with what I should put in it. It might take a while to make my mind up but at least I can give it a clean and start it cycling while I think. I know I can use it to grow my twisted val project in the meantime 8)
  7. 15 watts is low intensity. It was always on for about 6 hours and I had little or no algae for a long time and then the brown stuff started. I moved it to 3 hours recently as Jennifer suggested cutting it down to upset the algae but that didn't work so I did the 3 day blackout. Today the leaves are greener again but the big clean off and water change will happen on Saturday or Sunday. Jennifer, I'm a bit wary to try flourish every day, that is what I used to do in my first tank and I got staghorn algae that wouldn't go away. Though... the lights were on for longer and there was direct sunlight on the glass for part of the day. :roey:
  8. I have lots of those snails in my bugs trough and I harvest enough for the loaches to have one or two small ones each and then squash them into the tank. They usually don't get to the bottom as they are snapped up as they sink.

I HAVE NEWS I went today and bought the Juwel Rekord 60, which turned out to be in quite perfect condition, and was also given a 100W heater for it. Got it home, with continuing discussions about using it to give the loaches more water and a bigger filter. After discussing selling the loach tank etc, my husband says "it's not just a monetary decision... you've made an established eco system in that tank and now you want to ruin it all to start again. You should just set the Juwel up as a third tank and put some more fish in it" :bounce: :happy1: :happy2: :nilly: :nilly:
  10. thanks .... this tank is about 42L .... perhaps soon to become 60L if I buy a tank I'm looking at tonight. :bounce:
  11. I took the sheet off the tank this afternoon and the loaches came out immediately to look around and while I was poking about in the tank one inquisitive one was nibbling my arm and following me about! I rewarded him for his cuteness with some bloodworms as his first dinner all week. In other news, I thought the plants looked a little greener than when I put the cover on and some of the algae was a lot easier to wipe off. In addition to that, yesterday some new crypts arrived in the mail so I've planted those in as well. I've removed all the twisted val now so it's just crypts, anubias nana and some schraps of java fern that I'm trying to grow in there. One more question - what light period should the tank be on for? I've still got it on for 3 hours as it was before the blackout, before that it was on about 6 hours.
  12. you could leave it there and see what happens meanwhile your heart will break into a thousand pieces looking at your missing leafy masterpiece while you wait...... &c:ry or if you have a tank with different light tubes you could put it in there... also there was a suggestion once that it didn't like hard water, but am not sure on that. In my case I've changed the light tube and moved house so am not if there was much of a change in my water supply. The test kit tells me that there wasn't.
  13. I'm not sure on the price but you might be right. HFF have a Rekord 800 with a stand that is usually $779 down to $559 so I don't think a 600 would be less than $400, however Redwood have one without a stand for $230, Pets Unlimited have one without a stand for $250., You have got me thinking though, I was right to wait a bit longer in case the price comes down. Still, not having to arrange a stand is a convenience that has to be paid for. hmmmmm :smot:
  14. is it going brown and dying off? My windelov did that, I posted some photos somewhere, very annoying it was. I gave up on it for a couple of years but I have a new piece that seems to be doing ok since I got a 6500k bulb.

I'm always nice. *disclaimer - except when I'm not being nice
  16. I am thinking (if they relist it) of buying this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =510394865 but as I've never had an all in one tank before I'm wondering about the filter media. Do you have to buy the properly branded sponges or do other people use their own types of media such as noodles, etc? Whichever stuff you use, what do you use and why do you like it, or not? This is the filter http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/Product ... eeb971dqo1 thanks
  17. how is she doing now? your first post was early this morning...
