  1. No more otos in this tank for me. The fish I've had in the last year or two have never eaten processed food so perhaps after a while they starve.

this is for Phoenix44, from Fluffington Post
  3. Today's update... Since moving house in July and settling in to a well lit room, the plants became covered in a brown slimey algae that the 2 otos I added couldn't clean up. After putting the photo period down to 3 hours from 6 it still didn't work so I tried a 3 day blackout. No lights, no food, tank covered in a sheet. After the 3rd day I wiped the algae off the leaves, did a third of a tank water change, and put the lights back up to 6 hours a day. Since the last update I've removed the spindly twisted val, watched the balansae crypt revive, and added some new huge leafed crypts around the edges. There are supposed to be 3 oto in here but could only find 1 at last count. There are still 5 loaches and 3 corydora. Before the blackout shots After the blackout shots
  4. Tank update shot Hoover the moth catfish did die in the end but I never found his body. Willy Brisno the golden bristlenose also passed away in full googly eyed splendour. The remaining 2 dwarf rasboras have gone to live at Ice222s to tempt her into buying some more and I've not got boraras brigittae (mosquito rasbora), the CPDs and the danio erythromicrons in here. I had another 2 oto in here and one of those died. I moved the remaining one to the loach tank. I won't get oto for this tank, don't know why but they don't last more than a month or 2 in here.

  6. what if they are only lucky when they're green? :nilly:
  7. do you think I could have a pair in a tank of this size 51cm long x34cm front/back x 22cm gravel to waterline? and are they compatible with corydora?
  8. overweight size 12, what rubbish.. chuck out that wii thingy, it isn't your friend  well done Mel bet you can't wait to show your mum
  9. ok I'll think about it..... :cofn: are those tanks of yours near a light source, do they get any daylight?

I don't think so. They mill about all over and develop little territories. When I had 2 males 1 would live mostly around the driftwood and the other would roam the rest of the tank bottom. When I rescaped the tank and changed the driftwood the 2nd one disappeared and then the remaining one patrolled the whole bottom. If you got some and decided I was completely crazy I'm sure you'd find homes for them pretty easily.

if you can get females I think they are good as a pair or a trio, but I don't think there have been any around. I think Deepsound had something to say about ratios last year in his thread. They don't compete with other fish, they tolerate them like a cat tolerates a dog. When I had them with the CPDs they would mill about and if a CPD went near they stop and look at them with a sort of 'who ARE you' look on their face. At feeding time they would swim about interested but they weren't as fast as the CPDs so I had to try to disperse the live food about in such a way as everyone got some. Plenty of times I'd fire in some food to the badis and they would be eyeing it up slowly, then it would get chomped in front of their eyes by a CPD. As long as you have microworms they won't go hungry. In fact even if you don't they still may not as they spend most of the day hunting about picking off things they find, eyeing the bottom of the tank and looking in nooks and crannies. They are interesting little fish. :spop:

Badis don't need a species tank, they are happy milling about the bottom of a tank and don't take much notice of other fish at all. Mine rarely went for processed food but was very happy on microworms, mozzies etc. They have mini fish wars between themselves only and generally view the other fast moving fish with suspicion.

I admit I just like the idea of a waterfall but didn't watch the vid very long. Would look great in a frog tank... where's blueether, he needs it in one of his native tanks

not with a 15W daylight bulb I don't think, but yes it would look nice. I'm scared of glosso and hairgrass, they seem so high maintenance haha

that's really cool. You can get rocks with white quartz at Thames. I think it still needs some greenery, maybe some twisted val tumbling around in the current. :spop:
  23. how is kitty now? and does this mean what I think it means? I.e., that living with Ira makes you constipated?
