When you say play sand, does it have a brand name? I saw some at Bunnings today from Daltons and it was labelled '01' it had some tiny particles through to some pieces that looked like very small pumice.

thanks Ira CnS - it's sold as a snail killing remedy but it has its drawbacks as it cannot be used safely with fish in water under 50ppm hardness. Have a search on snail rid and copper sulphate, there is a lot to read. I'm using it with the livestock out of the tank at present

If anyone is interested I saw some fat bullies, some inanga and koura at World of Water in Hamiltron today. From what I'd seen about bullies in here I expected them to be timid but the ones in the outside tank followed my finger along the glass with their chubby cheeks. :love:

At what age does the sex of the fry develop, and can it be influenced by the fishkeeper? I find that many or even most of my biggest fry seem to be males and I 'thought' I was told that it can be due to temperature but I can only remember vaguely. Does anyone know?

seems the little fry were less concerned about eating when the was no peer pressure so back to the main tank they went. Spare tank now brooding for it's next inhabitants. Something that will live with current flatmates - shrimps, yep still got em

changed my mind, now have the 10 biggest fry in the killie tank, and left the 4 smallest ones in the garage so they can have all the food they can eat without being crowded out.
