or maybe I am addicted to the gladiator style entertainment that happens when feeding live critters to other critters though not addicted to the excitement that it causes - killies are now extremely excitable at mealtimes and I've had 2 jump right out of the tank in the last 2 weeks :-?

I am pleased to report that my mozzie/bug buckets are doing very well. One bucket I was trying to overfish the critters out so I could close it down but today I noticed thousands of what must be ostracods swarming. These are the size of a pin prick, different to the few in there that are the size of a pinhead, maybe they are babies. The other bucket was very green, I put a new motherload of daphnia and ostracods in from the farm and over a week they cleaned up much of the greenery and there is just some floating stuff at the bottom. Yesterday I was pleased to find about 6 live bloodworm in there. 3 of those went to the killies today and they just about went to nuclear war over them. I think I have Multi Bucket Syndrome, thinking of starting a bigger bucket. My husband has even offered to build me a plastic lined trough for them :lol:

a landscape supply place is best if you need more than a couple of kilo. Garden centres often have river pebbles in small bags if you just want a few handfuls. when we lived in Upper Hutt we often saw people nicking river stones too

if they are digging around the stones yes I think they will move. If they are big enough to touch the bottom and stick out of the top layer of sand then they will be a lot more steady. You could then put more stones on top like a rock garden and they wouldn't have anywhere to fall. I think there is a thread on here from the obstacle and he's used dividers so there are built up areas for plants and sandy bits too. I'm sure the others will have some better ideas if you are going to have digging fish.

go for a trip to Ti Point reptile park and see his cousins, there lots of different plants in their enclosures there. It could make you want more than one though

sand is fine to keep plants in as long as you don't have fish that dig about in it seriously I have got sand in my tank and put river pebbles around the base of the plants but it's overkill really, I only have dwarf corydora :lol:

HFF Mt Roskill. I went back to get some more and found there was only 1 left so I now have all of them.... the greeeeeeed! But now I can say that I have The 7 dwarves :happy2: I will post some photos when the crypts that Grumpy ordered have arrived.

Wrong again, I went to take some photos and found that I could see the white around the tail spot after all. Hard to see in some light but it is there :oops:

Mine do not have the obvious white at the end of the tail so I'm not convinced they are hastatus, but they were labelled as such and did seem to be slightly different to the pygmy...maybe their colour will develop later, they aren't full size yet. They are still very cute though. I am debating whether to go back and get a few more. Even in a 22L tank 6 still look small... or maybe I suffering from Cutey Greed :lol:

I am a new and proud owner of 6 corydora hastatus (dwarf) and am wondering if I can mix them with pygmaeus and/or harbrosus, or will they cross breed? (Given that they would breed in my tank of course). thanks
