  1. Just checking - Blueeyes bought some clowns that have a faint yellow stripe in the tail. I have now bought a definite male and another that has the faint yellow in the tail to go and live with those. We are wondering is the faint yellow in the tail sign of being a female or a younger male? The 2 I got are of similar size but the tails are different, but I thought the females have a completely clear tail. I couldn't see any definite photos of females on the web either. Can someone put us out of our misery or is it just too early to tell? :dunno:
  2. Obstacle's Rome was not built in a day :cofn: I don't think you will find the sand in the filter - I never have after all my swirling and reswirling and dropping sand in from above. Only thing was that day I found the filter sponges full of mud but that hasn't happened again. It could have been dirt that somehow escaped the rinsing but it certainly wasn't sandy.
  3. I'm still on my fry-high :happy2:
  4. I suspect Ira is in his 30s.
  5. even better, my husband found 2 more black fry in the water and then I found 2 transparent ones. So 5 in total. Those dastardly gourami predators - I knew it!! :bounce: :happy2: :happy1:
  6. It's official, I have a fry! Found a tiny black sliver darting about in the water from the water change. Have sucked it out with a dropper and it looks like the photo from Day 4 or just after. Very tiny, and very fast :bounce: It may be a coincidence but this is the first I've found since I took the gourami out just under a week ago. I am so pleased :happy2:
  7. ah yes the eggcubator, well done. Do you have someone to look after the fish when you go away?
  8. very cool - did you capture those eggs or let them hatch in the tank?
  9. Maybe a question you could ask yourself is how attached are you to the Oscar, do you want to keep him? Either way you have possibilities that depend on whether he stays or goes.
  10. Stem plants still grow quite fast without CO2 but the lower ones will take a bit longer I think. I found it hard to wait so added more plants to fill in the gaps. About 3 months I can get out of a single stem of ambulia before it gets too long and drapes over the surface, then I usually trim it back for it to sprout from lower and plant the cutting. Then i might get another 2 or 3 months depending on the quality of the cutting and the root.
  11. I am also waiting patiently.... it seems there is an obstacle in the way of TheObstacle posting his pics

photo of blue moss please :bounce:
  14. I've decided mine are not conditioned enough or not old enough to breed yet as I am otherwise doing things right. This morning they had a big water change and a couple of feeds anyway. Ideally they will lay some eggs before I lose interest and find an instant gratification fish to play with instead
  15. so you could chat like this?

the leaves are supposed to be good for 'womanly issues' too.... they have a lot of iron
  17. do those little fish breed for you Marc? I wanted to get some sundadios but they are rare here. I have the boraras maculatus though
  18. Yes I think it is, I have seen those in the fish summer camp photos.
  19. as always, very nice arrangement Marc. I too would like to know what is the feathery looking floating plant and if there are any critters inside. :spop:
