  1. Hmm I also wondered if they are eating any eggs the CPDs are laying since the females are usually fat but I haven't seen any fry yet. They don't get white worms more than once a week or 2, my stock isn't very high at the moment.
  2. Alan, is there something you were thinking of that isn't good to feed them? Also this evening saw a CPD briefly chase a gourami away from the food so I wonder could they have done it!

same diff - I always found money far more useful though
  4. haha rudey nudey fish. Flashing is what I think you are calling flicking. Dodging about dashing themselves off objects as if they are itchy. Is that the sort of thing you are meaning?
  5. I too found Samuel Whiskers to be menacing! I have got my full set of books still, I dream that they are worth something as they are from before the copyright finished, but with my childish scribblings I doubt they are OOh and Brambly Hedge (still have those too  )
  6. my loaches have been seen actually rolling on their side in the sand for no apparent reason, but in a different way than flashing due to illness. :sml2:
  7. I found Dr Seuss to be nonsense, not even funny. To me it was pointless reading haha.

Just ask him anyway so he feels useful and you will get way better christmas presents. :sage: You will however have to apply more brainpower when you need to explain later why you didn't do what he suggested though
  9. Beatrix Potter used to get me into trouble for reading in the dark 8) Some of Roald Dahl's stories are also good for reading aloud from about 4 years, depending on attention span.
  10. This site is helpful for loaches. http://www.loaches.com/ They do have some funny behaviours that other fish aren't know for. Some of mine are quite flicky when scrabbling around for food, but there could be a few reasons if they are actually flashing and not just being loachy.
  11. Sparkling gourami are also interesting fish. They swim about like little ghosts looooooooooking at things.
  12. I am nearly at the end of week 2 of feeding live food (and more live food on weekends when I am around) and then going to do a big water change. I turned the temp up a couple of degrees so when I change the water it's more noticeable.
  13. 2 of the infamous White Poopers were found dead on the gravel within a short distance from each other yesterday afternoon. One had a bump along it's back and gill/cheek area was reddish, the other was perfect except for some redness around the middle of the tail. Too small to see anything other than major damage, of which there doesn't seem to be any. Unfortunately ran out of nitrate test kit but ammonia and Ph were all fine. The only other difference now is that the biggest gourami is now looking particularly unsociable and hanging out at the back of the tank. All I can put it down to is either aggression among the 4 or they ate something that didn't agree with them. For dinner the night before they'd had microworms and some dried brine shrimp, nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. The other remaining fish is unperturbed and continues to mill around the tank as if nothing happened... maybe he is the guilty one!
  14. yep and all those options are $5 or under per fish too
  15. dunno but mosquito or dwarf rasbora are great, best colour for a little tank
  16. Got another loach on the weekend, now have 5. Since then some of them have started feeding from the top of the tank, especially for bloodworms. :bounce:
