and you just add it less often or what? do tell....
  8. Is that how you brooded your Mini-Obstacles? Ok never mind, I don't really want to know Since my earlier post I have taken out all the sand so now they are essentially naked. They have the moss and a large supply of food for the evening, so will see if anything new in the morning. Since they are in the garage rather than on display I might as well treat it as a breeding tank and see how it goes. I will look for some fake plants out on my travels

'We' Low-techers do still fertilise, we just don't pore over our tanks with droppers counting bubbles and farts and pearls 8) Mine get 1 dose of flourish comp every 2 or 3 weeks. I think it can probably do without it but hell why save for retirement when I can spend money on my tanks :sml2: You're probably right though
  10. My next question is why does the tank have to be bare bottomed? Would it not be more natural for them to have some sand to snuffle in or is that we are really want to stimulate their survival instinct by providing unnatural conditions? or is just a matter of housekeeping? :cofn:
  11. So do you all sit around in a circle and say 'my name is _____ and I'm a fishaholic'? And do you have chocolate biscuits?

Is there a low tech Jungle juice available yet Plant Nerds?
  13. sure are I shop at Chickens-R-Us I will do that next, thanks Alan. I am presuming they are mature enough - hard to tell with such little fish.
  14. no eggs for me this morning, except from the chickens at the supermarket
  15. have a look in the forum on the link, there is thread called Post your funny loach photos and you will see what I mean about them doing weird stuff. Other than that I believe they like clean water as in nature they are usually in rivers with current, though I think these are captive bred so who knows. If he looks sick to you then have a search on here about what Alan mentioned and 'flashing' though. this is what flashing looks like
  16. I think that tank would look more spectacular if somehow the whole tank was blacked out and all you could see were the fish under the lights, no tank. Like a black hole with fish swimming illuminated inside. The sort of thing you'd see in an old James Bond film just before someone got fed to them.
  17. Right well The Unsociables have had about a third cold water change and are now in darkness. Aside from squashing the whole bit of moss between my fingers I searched high and low and found no eggs beforehand.
  18. I hate riddles that are too riddley for me to get straight away  since you asked though, here is a little english lesson. It's just a typing mistake I'm sure, but you might find it funny if you like puns: roughly translates to Small Bottom..... 'nethers' in english are what lives under your skirt.... :sml2:

Sewing Leave eh, I might try that on the new boss, he might not know it's a fib
  20. are you supposed to feed them and then do a water change nearer nightfall? I have just given them a shrimp pellet and some microworms but I have to go back there in half an hour or so, could do a big water change. Or when is the best time?? It is certainly the right air pressure today if they like rainy season
  21. all the Martin Waddell books are cute and simple stories too. I used to read the Pig in the Pond to the kids in childcare. and funnily enough, Everyone Poops is also a good one to read when prude adults are around haha http://www.amazon.com/Everyone-Poops-My-Body-Science/dp/0916291456
