To my understanding there are different kinds of oxygen weed available in rivers, some legal and some not. Personally I would find it hard to tell them apart unless it was obvious but once upon a time Stella recommended a book to me that had good photos that could be of assistance.

I asked this question in freshwater but didn't get an answer so Mohammed will instead bring the mountain to you guys.... In your opinions (as existing betta owners) will a fighter actively hunt down fry small enough to fit in its mouth? I have decided to get one to put in with my celestial pearl danios and am wondering if I should make alternative arrangements for either the fry or the fighter. I wouldn't mind so much if it ate the eggs but I would like to see my existing fry grow up. Do males and females have different temperament in this situation, are they usually always peaceful when not sharing with another of their own kind? Who else has kept a fighter with small fish? thanks :cofn: :spop:

many of them are OK, they just haven't bothered to test on aquariums so don't risk any hassle by saying they can be used in the aquarium. The sort you really can't use is the stuff with mould inhibitors, but general plain old standard silicone is OK. If you post the name of it no doubt someone can tell you if they've used it. Some takes longer to go off than others too.

Thinking of caving and getting a fighter fish .... it would look prettiest in my planted tank with my little group of celestial pearl danios, but has anyone tried this and found that they don't get on? The danios are peaceful as far as I know. Do you think they'd be nippy? Also will the fighter actively hunt down my CPD fry till they are too big to eat, or are they more opportunistic and will just grab the easy pickings? We had the guppy fry in with the fighters at Expo and everyone was surprised they didn't get eaten. At least they didn't on Saturday any thoughts on this appreciated
