  1. I'm not bored... hurry up with the rest of the story :slfg:
  2. got a photo? if it's some sort of gunky build up you might be able to clear it by adding extra circulation/current

    The What's Up? thread.

Wedding anniversary today so we had a big roast dinner and tiramisu for pudding..... I have tomorrow off work to recover :gigl:
  4. I doubt the algae treatment will have any effect. Once the leaf starts to go brown it's had it and you might as well cut if off. A new one will grow from the stumpy bit later. IF you have not displeased the fern gods that is..... one never knows
  5. I have had mixed success with java fern. Some people have alluded to the fact that it died because I kept it out of the water for too long during tying it to wood etc, but stuff I haven't done any harm to haven't survived either. The stuff in my CPD tank does really well, but not bolbitis or windelov. The stuff in my loach tank is looking rather sad. Now I just stick with the ones that do well, plain java fern and narrow leaf.

  9. this is really cool, I don't want the story to end :spop:
  10. or could just mix lots of darker stuff in with it. :nfs:
  11. that is sensible compared to some others :sml2:
  12. I didn't know you before but welcome back. I'm not sure what you mean by 'keeping it sensible'..... those words are not often used when it comes to fish hobbies around here :sml2:
  13. nice pics I was very lucky and saw the tuatara when I went a couple of months ago :happy2:
  14. Graham if you're trying to get rid of the algae perhaps you should go down that road instead? black out the tank or turn the lights down to a few hours or something??
  15. I would like to know what is causing the brown algae on the crypts and anubias in my loach tank. They are all growing and healthy except for the algae. Once upon a time I was told that green algae means too much light, brown means not enough - is that a myth? inside tank dimensions 52cm long 21cm deep from water level to average top of substrate 33.5cm wide lighting 1 x - T8 15watts 6500k tube, for 6 hours a day. Little or no natural sunlight near tank. little or no fertiliser except for root tabs and JBL balls in the substrate, which is gravel and sand.
  16. Best of wishes and happy thoughts to you Jack. I nursed and hand fed/medicated my cat for a year before he died, it's heart breaking.
  17. breeding trap put back with gravel along the edges. Given that the fry always seem to appear after the adults have gone, even in the non breeding trap tanks, I think the adults eat the fry rather than the eggs. If they ate the eggs I wouldn't be getting fry after the adults had vacated.
  18. I believe it is general forum etiquette to not make photos so big they can't be seen and in any case Zev is at the conference and I want to see Joe's pics nownownow! Thanks for the links Joe. Those loaded quicker than when the forum resizes them. That little guy from Bilbo is cute.
  19. Joe, would you mind resizing these so they fit on the computer screen? It's very hard to appreciate what you are showing when it doesn't fit on the page.
