  1. sorry to hear about your fish :tears: it's always sad to lose a project or some scaley friends, especially when you think you've done the right thing to help them.
  2. aqua scraping.... that sounds like a fun new sport for Fish Heads...... :gigl:
  3. all my minifish have loved golden pearls, you can get really small ones from Dorl on TM, he's also caserole on here. It's really cheap and lasts ages because it's so small. You can put it in some water and then fire it down to them with a dropper. If you send me your address again I will post you some of mine to try out.
  4. too cute not to share http://www.buzzfeed.com/paws/awkward-cat-sleeping-positions *disclaimer - this may overload you with squee
  5. they break down into smaller pieces eventually but if you don't disturb them much they can stay intact quite a long time. Those are oak leaves Joe has in there

lots of good lolcats to look at since I last checked on Friday here are just 2 of them. Believe me, if I were allowed I would have posted more

I have never seen a big fish able to catch a grown fry *disclaimer - your critters may be able to catch your fry*
  8. so cute! the fry look like little aliens

I need one of those.... so I can NOT SHARE with Anthony
  10. putting them into a light hood would be good - are you an electro-wizard too? If not you'd need 4 plug sockets which could prove irritating or cupboard-filling For the same price or less you can get a tube to fit across the top, have a look near the end of my loach tank thread for the one I bought. There are some reasonably priced ones on TM
  11. my 2006s need the sponges squeezing out every month or 2 as the water flow gets less and less. Am not sure if that is because I have lots of little fish making lots of little poops or what
  12. I only ever saw nitrite readings on my first tank when I started off by scrubbing everything clean and throwing all the fish in. If you see no to low ammonia as you are, and nitrates as low as they are, I would say plop the rest of the fish in. In my experience the most that will happen is that the ammonia and nitrate will go up a bit and then slowly go down again.
  13. never had an Aquaball, but I had a pickup 2010 on my 54L and it was good. I now have a 2006 on my smaller tanks and like them well enough. My only complaint is that the top needs a bit of help to come off so I sanded the little lip to make it easier. Some have plugged up the holes with sponge too as fry can get sucked into it's sucky motor. I plugged the holes and later removed the bungs to improve water flow and I didn't lose any fry.
  14. I have one of those on my mountain minnows breeding experiment (see signature) and while it doesn't throw much light outwards the plants underneath are doing well enough. It's not 'bright' light though, as spoon says. If you got low to medium light plants they would probably be OK if the tank was not overly deep. not sure how 'pretty' 4 of them would look
  15. lemon tetra would look really golden against the black background
  16. I wouldn't put the filter in until you are sure that the resins etc are finished leaching toxins. I mean, just to be safe, since you have put so much time and effort into it, would be a shame for something to go wrong now.

I am mulling over selling one of my minifish tanks but there are complicated issues that are clouding my judgement. Do I want to sell because I am currently 'springcleaning' some emotional areas of my personal life and that is creating a theme.... am I actually bored and need a change...? Is it just full moon giving me the twitches?
  18. there is an easy way to solve a rubiks cube, move the stickers
  19. yay, very cool  thanks for sharing
  20. Still no fry in either tank. Here is a little movie of the inhabitants of tank 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r179ytFNN-A
  21. I had been waiting for the crypts to grow out for a bit longer so I could take a photo. They had all recovered from the various melts and had quite a few leaves. Since putting in the new light bulb the twisted val was putting out wider twistier leaves and the tenellus tenellus seems to be adapting also. There has been strands of hair algae and a bit of dust algae on the glass but other than that no serious complaints. The 2 sword plants are doing OK. This last month the big bit seems to have converted to submersed as a few old leaves died and the new ones are longer and less spade shaped than the others. Yesterday I noticed one crypt had a shiney patch on a leaf, today every single one of them has started melted. I have done nothing to the tank in the last few weeks, certainly haven't touched the gravel and the water changes have been very small or non-existent. Lighting has been the same, algae growth has been same, no new fish. I am started to get really irritated with it. I think it is time to give up on crypts in here. :-?
