  1. why does that fish look like he's pressing on the glass trying to peer out? :sml2: maybe he can see Anthony coming with his paintbrush camera :digH:
  2. :nfs: I can see the two themes too, but once it grows in it will be less obvious, and using the long sticks to go over towards the stones does quietly draw the 2 ends together.
  3. Yes the white worms dietary issue was that previously we've been warned that they are too fatty for frequent feedings. I have kept them a few times but the cultures always died. I had grindals on scouring pads from Bilbo that I couldn't keep alive and later got some on old potting mix that also disappeared. All I have now are the ones that I find easy to keep - black worms, micro worms, daphnia and mosquito larvae. Joe, if you want pond bugs you could set up something like my bugtopia pond. What likes to live in there will be what you end up with, I've tried transplanting various bugs from externally sourced places and in the end only the daphnia were the main colony. There are no doubt other microscopic bugs, snails, bloodworms etc, but you can't plan on keeping micro-bugs if the situation isn't right for them.

    Soon...

you must sing to it by candlelight ...is the only way
  5. maybe Cola is related to Basement Cat and they are afraid she will steal their souls.......... :gigl: (see LOLCATS if you don't know about Basement Cat..... )
  6. Joe, you can chop blackworms into tiny pieces and then the fry (larger fry of course) can have a chomp. And you don't have the 'dietary' issues with black worms as you do with white worms.
  7. You could cut the lighting down but without seeing the parameters of the tank in this thread it's a little hard to give suggestions. My tank lights are only on for 6 hours a day but then I run low tech tanks. If you have a lot of fertilisers or C02 in there then doing that would cause problems.
  8. algae can come in with new plants but it will only stay if the lifestyle suits it.. perhaps you are feeding the new fish a little much and this is providing food for the algae?

    The What's Up? thread.

I went to the dentist today, first time in 16 years and got a gold star. 36 years on this earth and still no fillings :happy2: I think my teeth are made of stone :gigl:
  10. will you still get some fry if there are some hiding places?
  11. I've tried a bunch of commonly found plastic meshes - in my breeding tank thread - not all successful but could work for you. The best stuff looks like white bait net that you can get from someone like Discount Fishing Supplies online, I didn't get that far and haven't inspected in person. If you find any stainless steel mesh that is affordable please let me know, maybe we can get some together. I have the cutting stuff here if you don't
  12. where are the fish going? into the terracotta pot tank?
  13. While we all know it's not the best way to start a new pet's life, it's not unusual to have bought a pet, then realised you didn't know all the facts about keeping them and then had to ask for some help... I know I have done it myself. Yoda, if you have any more questions after having a hunt through the reading, please do ask.

  16. why don't you get him his own little tank where you give him lettuce and all manner of goodies?
