    unknown worm

it closely resembles an aquatic nematode but of what kind I'm not sure. It was too long and active to be planaria. in any case it's now gone. I had it in a small container and today it has disappeared so has either crawled away or died.

interesting post Mel... especially the deliriously crazy look in this girl's eyes... it's rather creepy .... should anyone love worms this much? She could be about to bite it's head off

thanks Squirt, not pin worms as they describe them in the thread as not being good swimmers. This worm was an expert. Charles, I will do some more hunting tonight, thanks for the tip. Google was not my friend before :roey:
  4. Chloe I'm sorry to hear you have been having a rough time lately.... and glad you have your cutie puppy to snuggle with though I know it's not quite the same :tears:
  5. easy to clean at that depth, and easy to catch fish too

    unknown worm

Today I caught a mysterious worm in my gold mountain minnow fry tank. It's about a centimetre and a half long, thin and white like a piece of thread and it swims in the water like a sea snake. You can only see it from above, it's either too transparent or too thin to see side on. It definitely has an end that is in the lead, as opposed to watching a bloodworm swim which is very disorganised and figure 8 like. I have searched for it on google and can't find anything that it resembles, does anyone recognise what it might be? A photo will be difficult. Will try tomorrow
  7. what do you mean 'only' 300mm deep? *says the person with only nano tanks :sml2:
  8. Sounds like a good compromise. When you get your filter sponge or whatever is going in there you might be able to pack the wool in with it to get the new stuff established with bacteria. If it doesn't fit you could stuff it in a stocking and hang it in the tank for a few weeks.
  9. My filter gets clogged with silt and plant gunk that doesn't get to decompose into the sand (compared to gravel that lets the crap sit around longer), it's not necessarily caused by too much feeding. My loach tank filter sponge has to be rinsed every 4-6 weeks to get the flow going again. Also washing in tank water isn't harmful, it's only untreated tap water that should be avoided. Maybe a few bacteria get dislodged in the rinsing but it can't be much or I'd be seeing mini cycles. IMO :cofn:

breeding is only fun for me when it works, I've had some success and some failures... presently I've having success, fingers and toes crossed I don't upset the breeding gods again 8)
  11. have you tried taking the wood out, putting the head end lower than the tail and pouring water down? that might help him to dislodge gently without hurting himself. I don't know much about plecs but it doesn't sound like a good life for a fish, to be stuck inside a cave.
  12. I think you did but I'm still happy to hear it again, finally some success. good luck with your experiment :happy2:
  13. after moving the fish over the divider yesterday I found 2 fry in the side they vacated. have fixed the breeding trap and moved the adults back in. Fry have been moved in with their brothers and sisters in tank 1. That should make about 10 fry if none have died. In tank 1 the net box was not containing the fry so I have freed them till they are a bit bigger Tank 1 - home of fry Tank 2 - adults on right side of divider. Likely eggs laid in moss overnight too. I hope
  14. my avatar bears an uncanny resemblance to me
  15. thanks I think I need a little green plant at the right side of the new front log
  16. tweaked a bit. Need the tenellus to grow in more for more jungle, I rarely see the moth catfish since the overhaul
  17. maybe it's a breeding or camoflage behaviour
