  1. Today we mourn the passing of Mr Skinny 3. After a week of palliative care, he went to fishy heaven today in the style of the wicked witch of the east, head buried under some wood and his tail sticking out. :tears: I had wormed the tank 2 or 3 weeks ago and the others that I suspected were looking thinner, have all plumped up again. Was too late for MS3 though.
  2. So.... some good news from me. Last Friday I found 5 fry in the tank that I was originally trying to breed the GCMM in, after I had moved the adults to the new experimental breeding tank. Over the week I have counted a total of 8. They zip about with their gold headlights on and are very cute. They are eating mostly golden pearls and sometimes crushed flake. Today I moved them into a net box to see if that will contain them in case I move the adults back in. In Tank 2 the new breeding box worked pretty well in that the adults were relaxed and doing their usual fishy business. Today however I tried to look under the trap to see if there were eggs and I found a fish under there instead :-? I've moved the fish over the divider next door to the mossy covered side of the tank and taken out the breeding trap to look into making that more secure around the edges. I'm pretty happy with the results so far :bounce:

  4. it seems there is little appreciation for modern art, at least in this thread
  5. I thought this would be a pertinent place to put this photo
  6. !drool: x1,000000000 let me be the first to :spop: you :happy2:
  7. Rescaped - a little more traditional in layout now. Wood broken into smaller pieces. New rock on the right, other 2 rocks spread out more. New java fern, extra narrow leaf java fern & anubias, same swords, same tenellus tenellus (trimmed), christmas moss and crypts removed. Twisted val spread to the right slightly.

I know how it goes: if he does a good job, he takes after Dad, if he makes a mistake, he's just like his Mum....
  9. What sort of filter is in there? I understood they don't like too powerful a current or they get tired with those big tails. Could be a tiny something to make an effect but I doubt it would kill them. Also have you tested the water since the other deaths? If the water heated up hot enough it could have killed some of the filter bacteria and caused another mini cycle and the new guppies are having trouble adjusting.
  10. I used Panacur which is the same thing in a liquid form, I soaked the food in it and then dumped the solution in the tank too. Whoever ate got a better dose than those that didn't.
  11. have done what BURN suggested once and put the breeding box on the bottom, wrong way up so they are still suspended over the floor but they have a bit more room and lay eggs through the grid to the bottom which is protected by the box. Just a temporary measure while I either make a new grid with shallower sides. or cut that one down. They were quite relaxed when I transferred them into the amended version so here's hoping. :spop:

Welcome If you haven't checked it out already, there is a section for Saltwater marine with a lot of interesting and helpful information. :happy2:

  14. was given more plants this afternoon so it's all muddied up again
  15. it's finished now, will post photos when the water is clear
  16. here are the loaches playing Pea Football http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qz2vEmHGFo0 the tank is a bit cloudy as I moved all the crypts from the CPD tank in here and topped up the sand. The crypts were only stalks so not much to see but I figure if they are going to grow it will happen in here where my crypts have done pretty well of late. Touch wood
  17. Tank is undergoing a rescape so is a bit messy and cloudy here, but couldn't resist taking a video of Willie Brisno chomping on a pea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRnrQv2-uG4

    Mystery fry

I don't think these are counted as fry anymore... they are (quote Livingart) and will zip away. Maybe you could try it with just one fry and see if he's still there in the morning.
  19. Tank is 25cm high with water filled to 22cm. 23.5cm front to back and 44.5cm long. Breeding box is 8.5cm high, 13.5cm wide, 20.5cm long. It takes up about half of the tank. They have a scant handful of moss in there like what you told me to give the CPDs and I've put moss underneath so they don't seem as suspended above either. The rest of the tank is mostly moss too.
  20. There isn't much you can do to punish a 16 year old, he is still a child in the eyes of the law. Also you have to bear in mind that the boy didn't grow up in a vaccuum, much of our way of life is not healthy and neither are many adults who bring up kids so maybe those around him should also be punished. In any case, I doubt his punishment will end when the sentence is completed, I think this sort of crime against other living creatures has long reaching repercussions.

    The What's Up? thread.

I like those cupcakes. Speaking of which, my husband is taking far too long on his solo outing to buy chocolate. I hope he is not eating the subject on the way home :-? Spent most of the afternoon rescaping my CPD tank. I had to leave it unfinished as I clouded up the water so much I couldn't see what I was doing. :gigl:
  22. I haven't seen any wriggling of bodies together but there is usually a male shepherding the females about which I assume means there is 'something' going on. The females are good and tubby as well.
