  1. From Brads mum's 6ft display tank Frenchy
  2. Did u want all fish in pics ID well attempted? Which ones do u know the names of? Frenchy
  3. I would suggest stripping straight away. Set up a separate tank, use a flour sieve & air stone. The cuckoo will hatch first & attack the eggs. Cool to watch them eat eggs nealry there own size. Once all the host eggs are gone you can either strip more cichlids to feed to them or use frozen bloodworms, defrosted off course. Frenchy
  4. Its not the eating. Its more to do with the robust nature of cichlids & their digging. Frenchy
  5. I wouldn't have more than one convict in the tank. It's a bit of trial & error really. Just go for a mix of colours of mbunas & see how it goes. The odd robust lake Tang.... Best advice is look around whats for sale or what you like the look of. Get a list, post it up here... sure someone will give experiences from there. Frenchy
  6. Well I would say the zebs r a hybrid Frenchy
  7. What is a snow white? Problem with mbunas is it could be any of them, or a couple. With peacocks, as with above comments, they can be hit & miss with mbunas. You could try peacocks again, but wait to you get a bigger tank, allow for a good open area in the tank & try & get the peacocks at a bigger size. Frenchy
  8. Good to see the fry are growing nicely! My first log on in 2 months... so the fry are past the really touchy stage, :bounce: just a case of keeping up with food & water changes. Frenchy
  9. "Was" an interesting looking mixture. Frenchy
  10. Pass, as above with previous comments about pic quality & size. Frenchy
  11. Yeh I agree on that. Also I am not saying they are crosses either. Frenchy
  12. Calviceps r what we call a calvus cross with a compressiceps Frenchy
  13. Thats wierd the yellow in the fins. Yellow calvus are extremley rare & very expensive. So I doubt they could be those. There aren't any of them here in Aussie. {aparently real ones might be now, I haven't seen yet} Although there have been what we call calviceps around here, a long time. Cross breed that people fork off as yellow calvus. Body shape give them away. Yours are for sure calvus but, yellow is odd. Frenchy
  14. I use epsom salts in my african set up as part of my buffer recipe. Water here is a little on the soft side. Just like th AB's last week. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/buffer_recipe.php Frenchy
  15. Brad had/has a couple of males in the 10ft display tank. It was always funny to watch the dom one chase the other around most of the tank. Yet as Ryan said, leaves everything else alone. & yes these guys do breed at a very young age. Frenchy
  16. Agression might not be to bad. Probably try to pick fights with similar shaped, coloured mbuna. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Frenchy
  17. Flies? Never have trouble with flies where I am. I agree with the accent, but I say mine is a horrible mixture of both now. Frenchy
  18. Not surprised by the behaviour. You may have to try a few things, moving rocks around, take jewel out for a while. But once the convicts pair up the jewel will be in trouble. How big is the tank? Frenchy
  19. Have you vent sexed the fronnies to see what sex they are? You got some good advice from the others here on what you can do. 3 is to small a number for these guys. Frenchy
  20. Nah! spotting pattern is way different. All the ones here have a heap of scattered dots. So closer to 90% Frenchy
  21. One of Brads customers grows brine shrimp. I think Brad is going to give it a shot. Have to get him to let you all know how to etc, if anyone is interested. Frenchy
  22. Vary nice fish there Mark Frenchy
