  1. thanks, thought the first option would be the better of the 2 evils
  2. Hi people After a lot of tooing and froinf i've decided to setup my new 4 foot tank next week with a canister filter and want to know the best option for setting up the new tank and moving some of my fish about - my severums and chocolate cichlids are on the move into this new tank and the old 3 footer will be small community fish only. the main issue i have is that im moving the 3 foot tank at the same time so things become a little more complicated these are the options i was thinking but want to limit the amount of stress on my fishies so want to know what the wise people on this site would do * cycle the new canister in the current tank for about a week or so to start the bacteria colony up * put all the fish into chilly bin * drain the 128L tank and keep about 100L of the current water * move the 3 foot tank to its new home * move the 4 foot tank to where the 3 foot was * use 50% of the water saved above for each of the tanks * put the chocs and sevs into the 4 footer and the community fish into the 3 footer * done or * cycle the new canister in the current tank for about a week or so to start the bacteria colony up * put my fish into chilly bin * drain the 128L tank and keep about 100L * move the 3 foot tank to its new home * refill the tank with about 60-70% of the water i kept and do a water change at the same time * replace all the fish * move the 4 footer to its home * fill the tank with the remaining 30-40% of old water and continuing cycling the tank with 1 or 2 little fish for a week or two * move the chocs and sevs to the new tank * done your thoughts are appreciated :bounce: :bounce: Cheers Skip

  7. i went to work yesterday morning and i get a call from the wife - why did you put a fish on the kitchen bench ? i said - what are you talking about - she said theres this brown fish on the bench - darn bullie jumped out after being fed in the morning and then the wifey found it - doh and tonight i think i found the blue shrimp - its changed slightly from a clearish blue to a almost solid brown but still has some blue tinges on the tail.
  8. haha yes - no whitebait but i think i caught a bullie (real small one) so thats in the tank with the shrimp and my swordtail babies and will see if i can grow it up

  11. for sure - it was nice to get out at night and catch the little critters - was good that we also saw a wild brown trout and eel in the river - if only we had fishing gear and a licence too
  12. i just looked at them tonight and the blue one has either gone into my pond or the color is gone and its clear. im sure that when i seperated them the blue one was going into my nursary tank - wheres that face palm smiley
  13. i guess thats where the problem lies - we have a couple of fish goldfish in there :bounce:
  14. i say pond but in reality its a half wine barrel with black pond liner in - been there for about a year in the same place - its mostly green water thats there - not so much algae - its in a shady position and doesnt really get much sun for long periods as we have a big tree blocking it out. i would say the water has been green for months - doesnt matter how often i do partial water changes in it it just comes back so thought may be i need some critters in there to help clean it up.
  15. so are you saying here that these pea clam etc will eat the algae ? or is there nothing really that will help cleanup after my dirty goldfish
  16. do native shrimp cleanup green water in ponds ?
  17. i tried the crushed flake and liqufry but my babies didnt seem to grow very fast - so i got some microworms - from my experience they grow much much faster
  18. jsut watch out of the model of blackberry you get if yo ugo that route - some models break more than others - stear clear of the 8100 and 8110 pearls !!!
  19. they will take a while to grow to a stage where you can put them in with the parents - assume that if they can fit in the mouth they will be eaten
  20. im not sure but i think it is - can anyone confirm from the pics ? my severum likes to look at me straight on so its get any side on - little begger....
  21. there was a good turnout in wellington today - and like its been said above if they raise the acc levy for cars by $77 then that covers all the money that is being spent on bike accidents... get some real accountants in acc to do the math cause the current clowns running the show dont know - Edit Admin -
  22. I guess they figure you are 7 of a few hundred thousand policies and dont need to keep you happy. stink company !!
  23. Charlie - sorry have to disagree with you there - yes there are some idiots on bikes that give most bikers a bad name - but this fee hike is unjust !!! how would you like to be told that you have to pay 400 % more acc levy for your car rego to cover the costs of the imaginary figures some bureaucrats have made up !! im stopping now before i go insane !!
  24. +1 just follow the directions to the letter and you should be fine
  25. there is also a protest converging near parliment in wellington at 12:30 this saturday - i'll be there on my nifty fifty
