just to add my 2c - they are running a shop - its in their best interest to approach customers to say hi and can i help - if you say no then thats fine they can go back to the chit chat but if you say yes then thats all sweet - to completely ignore people is downright rude especially if there is a group of people chatting - if they are busy its understandable that not everyone can be served or acknowledged straight away

i went out and took some photos last night - i think this one is eerie

i think the water getting between the backing and the tank is all up to how you attach it - i have it on 3 tanks now and dont have any water stuck between - i use double sided tape from one end to the other and down the sides making sure its all overlapped - if i had an empty tank i would have done the bottom too. the tape stops any water getting in between so its not a problem for me HTH Skip

i concur about the golden barbs - they are alot quieter than the tiger barbs, and golden tiger barbs

i have my angel in with all sorts of barbs and although i dont see the angel get chased its fin extensions are not as long as they were when it was in tank with another angel only.

Hi AquaVitamins - was that in animalz ? i dont think he knows that much about fish - if you need some tonic i have some you can use - it does slightly stain the silica sand but i have used it a couple of times and you cant really notice it now. you are more than welcome to pop round and check out what it looks like afterwards and borrow my bottle if you dont want to go back to animates or animalz today im in Devonshire Road so not far from you if Miramar is local to you :bounce:

i went into the lower hutt animates about a month ago and they had 4 tanks that needed looking at - i pointed them all out to them and they were like oh crap - and treated them all straight away - it all depends on who is working at the time and if they know what they are doing - if you go to the kaiwharawhara store make sure you speak to Les - him and one other girl there are the only ones i would really talk to as they seem to know what they are talking about

what sort of plastic nipple are you talking about ?? do you mean just like those connector bits for the airline hoses ?

hmm - i dont really have anywhere i can stick it for the inlet side as it just sucks the water and gunk up through holes in the bottom of the filter - maybe i should get one of those ladders ?

so i have cleaned up my tank some more - removed my airpump / airstone and thought about putting in a DIY CO2 setup. i think i have the receipe down - 2 Litre bottle, 2 cups of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of active yeast and full the bottle to about 3 inches from the top of the bottle - tell me if i have that wrong my question is with the CO2 tube should that run from the above reactor bottle through an airstone or should it be attached to the output of an internal filter i chucked in the tank (its a tankmaid pro 400 filter) ? which would be best ? thanks Skip

did you get the whole waterbed type attachment thingy to empty and fill the tank or do you just suck on the pipe and syphon it off that way and use your attachment to fill only ? you could rent one of those trench diggers and have some fun while your at it

thanks - yeah looking forward to the new year - have been offered part time work at big save furniture - so I might take them up on that if i can find some sort of creche or something to look after the daughter while im working either that or keep looking for IT jobs - i know nothing will really happen until after xmas so its just a waiting game

must have been an optical illusion - can you put the heater in vertically on the left ? or horizontally at the bottom behind the rocks ?

i only ask cause i wasnt sure if the water ager would still clear up the chlorine etc after its gone through the tank already - i.e. not added directly to the fresh water i assume you also turn off the filter prior to filling so that the chlorine doesnt get into the bacteria ?

so it doesnt matter about putting it in before the water goes into the tank then

+1 for hiding the heater - that looks like a small tank with an oversized heater - is it ?

i have been thinking about doing this for my tanks - what do you do about the chlorine and chloromine ? do you put the water ager stuff to sort that out in the tank prior to the fill up ? or are you slowly adding the new water and not adding any ager ? surely it should only take about 20 to 30 mins to do the 2 tanks ? cause it takes me 90 mins to do my 3 tanks and they are 50% water changes weekly cheers skip
