  1. I've just gone the other way. Amazon is free of all the Chinese junk, and I use eBay when I want Chinese junk :bggrn: I have used AstroTurf, its OK. Best choice locally.
  2. From experience with other fish,If there are spawning repeatedly, just persevere, and with a good diet and it will happen eventually? Is the male creating bubble nests?
  3. Amazon.com is your friend. Just dont buy electrical goods as they wont work (110v)
  4. what you need is something we cant get in NZ Critter cages overseas are perfect, and cheap. You can get them from amazon shipped, but shipping costs a bit. a standard 10 gallon is all you need to get started for one. A 'reptile' enclosure here will set you back $$$ Get reptile carpet substrate, mount a heat mat under the enclosure, no lighting other than enough ambient lighting during the day to see them. Buy a thermometer / hygrometer, some bowls, 3 hides and your pretty much done.
  5. Sea kelp according to the bottle. Its Watkins Bounty npk liquid fert. 10% n, 3% p and 7% k plus traces I thought was pretty decent. With seachem you have to buy 4 products to get that... I might setup another tank and test it... edit. done some calculations. If i dosed say 4ml in my 55L, that would give: N - 8ppm P - 2ppm K - 5ppm Which isnt too bad... i could try half dose to start to be safe. Be interesting to hear what other plant buffs have to say
  6. http://www.amazon.com/Finnex-FugeRay-Planted-Aquarium-Moonlights/dp/B00GH9HURE This is what you need!
  7. Wood is also easier to keep warm, and like mentioned, you can cut holes for vents. Also makes it easier for fixture mounting
  8. I've got a nano power head on the way that I might not use? Will let ya know
  9. Possible to use? Decent amounts of macros as well as trace elements. There isn't any good combined commercial npk frets for aquariums available really. Figuring out dosing would be difficult initially. Thoughts?
  10. A 90cm 150l will be a 40 gallon breeder I think. You'll need to spend $ to keep red plants red.
  11. The back of the hood was open, i made it so the very top sat about 40mm high off the glass so a good gap all the way across its like with fish really. most of the time it doesnt work and its not recommended, the rest are just lucky :bggrn:
  12. for a wee while, but not for a few years. only kept BT's and beardies. A singular beardie will give you far more satisfaction that 2 blue tongues. Beardies interact with you a lot more. blue tongues just do their own thing.
  13. I dont think so. Blueys arent quite as solitary as beardies. I had 2 in a 4ft, and as mentioned, 4 for a few days with no issues. 2 is probably the best limit long term though. they seemed to like the company
  14. Use a standard aquarium. 4ft or bigger. just bear in mind without sliding front doors you'll have to pick and choose your equipment (ie. fixtures that can attach to the rims) Ive seen a few open topped tanks used as beardie tanks, they still look and work good.
  15. i opted for no lids (as they come aquarium style), was a simple case of a sheet of mdf to sit on the top with some edging. i had most of my equipment screwed into the underside of the lid. with the sliding front doors, the lid doesnt need to come off much. this tank was a 150 x 45 x 55 from memory Camtang, in a 4ft - only 1 beardie, or 2 blue tongues (ive housed 4 bluetongues for a few days with no issues)
  16. I had a 3ft unit over a 4ft tank raised about 6 inches off the glass and was perfect. they put out a lot of light on a 5ft it should be good, at worst you might have the very corners slightly darker.
  17. They are all on the small side really (height being the main problem, and so dont leave a lot of room for customer fixtures or give you flexiblity with heat / light bulb heights. I do recommend getting something made up to meet your requirements. I had Greg make my old one. Cheaper than the commercial ones too.
  18. id only ever go an FX5 on something that size.
  19. i think a 36'' hagen glo T5HO would have enough spread and light with some powerglo tubes and raised above the tank
  20. Get some Indian fern. just one 'lot' will do. It will grow at a nice moderate pace under your lighting and has a nice spread. then make a few cuttings and plant those, and before you know it youll have some dense coverage and having to prune it.
  21. with an auction, the consumer guarantees act doesnt mean squat. Seller doesnt have to provide any guarantee, warranty, even relevant information (though you cant give false information) All the risk is on the buyer, and its the buyers responsibility to inspect / ask the right questions etc.. etc..
  22. There's a legal difference between auction and buy now so I guess they don't want to back up their ’product'. Otherwise they are collusion if they expect bidding wars to break out...
  23. Just curious, what thread do our co2 tanks have in nz?
  24. im sure there is a reason leds are measured in PAR now, and im sure its something along the lines of not being able to compare watts to watts, lumens to lumens with flouros as LEDs are more efficient.
  25. with the co2, undid the caps, didnt appear to be pressure so did away with the extra check valve (tubing seemed to come off it a bit easy too) so less joins now, will see how it goes. In other news, it took 3 DAYS for my Finnex Fugeray to arrive from the states. unbelievable. i selected the slowest postage option and wasnt due til first week of feb! Anyways, here it is. its perfect. beautifully finished, and the 16'' option is perfect for my tank. no more dark corners!
